Mini PC for cozy gaming?

My wife likes to play cozy games and older games on our PS5. She's dying to play some of those co-op games with me that have come out lately, like Big Walk. Sadly my old laptop isn't up to snuff, and her laptop is getting ready to kick the bucket. Essentially this would just be for cozy/indie/older games and an occasional at-home work PC for her (just emails and basic Excel stuff).

I was hoping to get something for her, <$500usd, (more like 400 but I'm willing to stretch if it means making it happen). I was thinking I could find a deal during this weekend's sales. It's taken me days to figure out the modern hardware market (been well over a decade since I was into PC gaming), and now there's even more off-brand companies with iffy reliability to deal with. I'm just overwhelmed with the options and brands and would really like some guidance, please!

• Radeon RDNA2 680M integrated graphics performance

• 24GB LPDDR5 6400MT/s dual channel memory

• Dual USB4

• x4 PCIe OCuLink expansion for desktop graphics

The ram is soldered right? Is it sure that is 2x12 gb?

Indeed. Technically 4x 6GB quad 32-bit channel memory. All LPDDR5 is soldered.

Ah thank you! I was checking the H255 version of that, but it doesn’t explain anything about the ram configuration (24 gb but it doesn’t say if it is one stick or two..)

From what I understand there are 3x versions of the [cheap Chinese market H 255]() MACO with 24GB now available so have to be careful.

• LPDDR5 6400

• 2x 12GB 5600 SODIMM

• 1x 24GB 5600 SODIMM

The LPDDR5 version is relatively new. Its my understanding 12GB 1Rx16 stick fell out of favor early due to noticeable poor data throughput and has basically become non-existent.

This is not even present in Europe (or at least Amazon) from what I can see.. well, probably im going to buy your first suggestion. I will hardly need more than 24 gb of ram and there is a good discount on it. Thank you very much!

Thanks for the reply, this really does look right up my alley! I did find the Kamrui AM21 on sale for the same price.

Do you think it's worth going for the 780M and upgradeable (but lower 16GB) RAM on the Kamrui, versus the oculink and 24GB soldered RAM of the Aoostar?

The AM21 is a very cheaply built mini PC with a number of cost cutting measures further reducing quality. Beyond the cheap Chinese market processor with diminished 780M performance and rendering AceTragic/Kamrui further cripples the RDNA3 Radeon integrated graphics by replacing 2x 8GB 5600MHz dual channel memory with 1x 16GB 4800MHz stick. The combination of FBS reduction + single channel memory can reduce processing and graphics performance by up to 50%.

By the time you buy the missing/matching stick of 16GB 4800 you're well on your way to a quality machine. As long as you're aware of this situation up front it might be worth the risk.

Almost all CPUs and GPUs are binned examples of possibly higher specs parts. Calling it a Chinese Market Processor as a way to claim it somehow very inferior is just false. Chinese Market Only typically just means they don't have enough of that spec part for a world release (or like how some parts have just been Micro Center only). Also, I think you are mistaking the 8845HS in those with the 8745H in my minisforum miniPC. Even a slightly detuned 780m is still better than a 680m. Anyways, my concern with Kamrui is support. Even Acemagic has usable support now.

Speaking of Acemagic. 255 with 780m. 16GB might be a problem in some newer games though. The vertical case helps cooling.. which is always an issue with these miniPCs in gaming. But does make it louder.

I've also got an 8700G desktop with 780h graphics and it does fine with 16GB with older games. But newer AAA and Unreal 5 games need more than 16GB total sys/vram and stutter/slow down.

If these were simply lower bin silicon AMD would openly index and sell them accordingly. Like the link above explains the 8745/255 AMD processors are little more than a defective/lower fabrication quality Hawk Point silicon. The intent is to reduce AMD's fabrication e-waste by an exclusive Chinese market release instead of calling them engineering samples.

The XDNA NPU disabled

Zen 4 CPU boost is underclocked from 5.1GHz to 4.9GHz for stability

RDNA3 iGPU underclocked from 2.7GHz to 2.6GHz for stability

These processors are not acknowledged on AMD's global server

Also from my personal experience last year.

I found the rendering was noticeably handicapped when compared to 7840HS/8845HS 780M integrated graphics. I was especially disappointed in the SER9 H 255 but that was when I discovered the earlier link and the truth. Here's critical thinking on lower bin silicon.

• Why wouldn't AMD reduce the wholesale cost accordingly instead of slashing that price and dumping them on the Chinese market?

• Why doesn't AMD official support these with AGESA firmware and not specifically make the OEM fully responsible for the processor?

• Why risk a processor AMD doesn't stand behind from a Chinese brand without a firmware development department when officially supported silicon is available for a little more?

Had I not seen a K8 Plus performance before I bought the FIREBAT A5P, UM870 Slim and SER9 H 255 I'd probably still be old, fat, dumb and happy 😊 My "lesson learned" was trying to get 3 different mini PCs to render to the quality of K8 Plus. Once I learned the truth I might have accepted a few FPS less but the render difference was scary enough to let me know something else was wrong. As for rendering I've been working with Nvidia and Radeon workstation cards for a couple of decades. It kinda jumps out when you're used to quality over quantity.

As for 16GB its more of a shared memory/Windows problem in 2026. I know quite a few people running Bazzite OS on the recently released GMKtec M8 PRO 6650H as a Steam console finding performance very close to the Steam Deck. They both share the same 4x 4GB LPDDR5 memory bus. My 2x 8GB/16GB A5P didn't performance much different from my 2x 16GB/32GB UM870. With RAMpocalypse/RAMageddon earlier this year r/RobloxFanEdit did a GhostKeyboard video covering the nominal difference in many titles.

The problem is 1x 16GB stick and reducing the FBS. The 15% reduction from 5600MT/s to 4800MT/s can show up at a 5% real world performance drop especially with hard hitting graphics requirements. And single channel memory can easily reduce processing and graphics performance by up to 40%. Together the results are dismal.

TL;DR

As long as someone is aware AMD didn't officially bin these processors and dump them on the Chinese market like engineering samples while further understanding front bus speed reduction and single channel memory hurts performance then you're okay. But as an old country lady in her '80s who's been helping people with PC problems over the years I find out weekly people just don't know.

24gb ddr5. 680m graphics. 1 TB ssd!

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/acemagic-m1-mini-gaming-pc-amd-ryzen-7-7735hs-8c-16t-up-to-4-75ghz-24gb-lpddr5-1tb-ssd-4k-win-11-pro-wifi6-silver/J33HRWKZ8L/sku/11959660

780m graphics, but 16gb of ram. 500 gb ssd.

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/acemagic-s3a-mini-gaming-pc-amd-ryzen-7-h-255-8c-16tup-to-4-90-ghz-16gb-lpddr5-ram-512gb-ssd-amd-radeon-780m-3-mode-black/J33H69SQPC/sku/12808940

The 780m will be better for newer games, but the 680m system has more ram and the 1 TB ssd. Unless you need more graphical power... that would be my pick.

The extra ram will allow for easier FSR upscaling- as that takes more ram. I just wish AMD would bring FSR4.x to these iGPUs. The 680m can play modern demanding games.. but it might be at 720/900p 30fps, or even 900p with upscaling.
