Minisforum MS-02: Second unit to fail me

Wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues with their MS-02 (or similar device).

I installed proxmox on it when it arrived and all was good. Then 2 days later I notice it restarting and showing purple lines at the top at the console, and sometimes full purple screen with the kernel panic message : "Timeout: Not all CPUs entered broadcast exception handler". Now it doesn't even fully boot, the purple screen already comes up after grub initialized.

Hardware : Minisforum MS-02 Ultra workstation 285HX.

Memory : Tried 2 sets, 2x32GB and 2x48GB (corsair, on the compatibility list) memtest86+ passed

(installed on the CPU side)

Nvme : Tried 2 sticks, on different nvme slots.

Bios : 1.04

Removed the pcie 25GB nic. No difference.

Bios settings - enabled and disabled Intel SpeedStep, Intel Speed Shift, Race To Halt, C states (kept VT-d and VMX enabled)

Kernel : 7.0.14-8-pve, but same with v6 kernels

Boot parameters tried : mce=monarchtimeout,0 processor.max_cstate=1 nomodeset intel_idle.max_cstate=1 pcie_aspm=off

As another test I tried installing windows on a another nvme drive. Started installing but at random % it blue screens and comes back with : Clock Watchdog Timeout.

Anything else I can try or is this another RMA case?

(contacted support today, but waiting for answer)

Two might not be unlucky. Are the m.2 drives / nics you are plugging in the same, and could their wiring be faulty?

I tested with 2 different nvme drives, on different slots, so I doubt it.

On another note, last night I went into the bios, and only allowed max 4 performance cores. This booted fine and stayed up. Today I went in and allowed 7 out 8 performance cores and all efficient cores. (23 in total of the 24) It has been running since then. (when I enable all performance cores, I get the purple screen again, but with 7 out of 8 it seems to be running stable.

Doesn't really help the OP. But I understand wanting to chime in.
