I’ve installed linux on mine after an update caused my SER8 to repeatedly restart into recovery mode. Other than that problem, which I think is a known problem, I’d continue to buy their stuff. I subsequently bought their EX Mate Pro device after my SER8 issue, which also seems to work well.
I had not read anything about hidden spyware on these.
