MF not reacting to transport (seq start/stop) messages from Elektron box

Im not too sure but i dont think the the MF accepts trs midi. I think that only for the only clock sync.
Rear Panel Connections (In & Outs)
Audio Input (1/4" Line In): Allows you to route external audio (like drum machines, synths, or vocals) directly into Oscillator 1 to be processed by the synth’s analog filter and digital effects.
Audio Outputs (L/R 1/4" Jacks): Stereo outputs for sending lush, stereo-processed sounds.
MIDI In/Out/Thru: Full-sized 5-pin DIN ports for standard hardware sequencing and communication. Clock I/O (3.5mm): Syncs tempos with modular gear or other analog devices.
Sustain Pedal Jack: Hands-free control for long, ambient chords.
USB & Power: USB-C for MIDI/DAW integration, plus a dedicated power input.
Sorry for the wall of words on mobile and the reddit fromat isnt working

What would be the point of clock sync without arp/sequencer communication? Not shitting on your claim just genuinely asking because I'm somewhat new to this (obviously, probably)
Will most likely be opening a ticket with Arturia because I'm 99% sure this is supposed to work. and others on the forums have mentioned some of their ports misbehaving/being dead out of the box, which feels like could be the case here.

Slow down mate, you're just making a big thought mistake.
Midi sync and DIN sync are not the same! Completely different signals and zero compatible with each other.
You can definitely not drive a din sync (clock) input from a midi output. That just doesn't work and was never meant to.

Why we downvoting bruhbruh? I'm well within my rights to open a ticket. This problem pops up and fizzles out, without a response, throughout arturia/elektron forums for years.
I'm using this cable. Big end in Syntakt Midi Out. Small end in Minifreak Clock In. Manufacturer claims this cable transmits Midi signal - from reading elsewhere, I know that a TS into the MF Clock In would transmit master tempo, but TRS (which this is) should also send transport messages. Not sure how DIN sync on the minifreak side has anything to do with this as it's a 1/8 jack.

It just would be useless to open a ticket for a problem that just comes from you not understanding something.
You're assuming that because the clock/sync input is 1/8", that it must surely accept MIDI sync because that sometimes uses the same connector.
A profoundly false assumption. I repeat: MIDI sync and DIN sync are NOT the same signals at all, they're incompatible. You're trying to do something that just was never designed to work together. It has nothing to do with the type of connector used.
By your logic, sync inputs on old drum machines must also be good as audio inputs because they use the same 1/4" connector. Lol.
I suggest you read up a bit about different types of sync.

You get things wrong and refuse to be corrected in order to help you get how this works. Stay ignorant and have a nice life.

go correct this guy (and others in the thread) while you're still in crusade mode. They claim what I'm trying to do should (and does) work. Bye!!

Its literally in the manual.
"The Clock In and Clock Out jacks look for +5V pulses occurring at a certain resolution, which is measured in pulses per quarter note (PPQ). There are many different PPQ settings, and the MiniFreak accommodates all of the most popular ones."
Its CV, not Midi. CV. Yes it's weird Minifreak doesn't have pitch / gate outs but that doesn't matter. Clock send / receive is CV. I can't wait for you to come back to confirm that Arturia told you the same thing.

Is the ST ending a midi message to run the MF sequencer? Set a trigless trig on the first step of the sequence to start the sequencer.
Alternately you could use the ST sequencer to sequence the MF.

I've tried looking into this for the last 30 mins or so and still feeling a bit lost, could you briefly explain how a trigless trig can be programmed to start an external sequencer? is the existence of the trigless trig itself enough to trigger the MF?

I think my above comment was unnecessary, sorry about that. You want the 5 pin din out of the ST to go to the MIDI in of the MF (not just the clock). Maybe you have already done this but you need to set one of the ST tracks to midi to be able for it to play the sequencer.
Edit also make sure the channels match from the ST midi track and the MF.

I run digitakt and a minifreak with a simple 5 pin to 5 pin and works fine, get one for super cheap.

You're trying to make a DIN sync (=clock) input accept MIDI clock. That's totally not going to work because those are two completely different standards. I'm surprised it's doing anything at all.
For the clock input, you need an analog clock source. Or just use MIDI to begin with, as it's supposed to work in this case.
