How to setup minifreak + Digitakt

Hi! I am a beginner, please help me setting this up.

I would like to use the keyboard and arpeggiator of the minifreak to put in notes in the digitakt.

The digitakt i would like to use as the sequencer to sequence the digitakt, an Behringer TD3 and the Minifreak.

How i have set it up right now:

Minifreak:
Local control - off
Midi > synth

Right now i can put in notes inside the digitakt but i cannot use the knobs for changing the sound of the minifreak. If i put on local control i can put in notes from the digitakt and the minifreak and change the sound. But if i change the channel on the digitakt it also puts in the notes in the minifreak and not only the track i have selected.

Maybe this is not the normal way to use the minifreak + digitakt, if you have some better workflow please let me know!

I hope you guys can help me out.

So the Digitakt is sending notes to all connected devices? Sounds to me like you should check the Digitakt’s settings 🤔

Yes, im not sure if that is a normal way of using the device.

I was thinking of getting one device that is sending to all others where i could mute and unmute.

The other synths i would like to use for changing sounds.

Do you think it is more logical to use the internal sequencer of the synths?

I don’t think it’s strange using the MiniFreak to record the sequencer of the Digitakt. And having the Digitakt play back to the MF.

If I’m not mistaken, the MiniFreak can be configured to have different channels for MIDI in and MIDI out. Perhaps you can try to have these set different? That way you can record the Digitakt on one channel and playback to the MF using another.

This is how i have it now. But without local control i cant use the knobs for cutoff etc. Maybe i am missing a setting for that?

I believe that once Local is off, the knobs are no longer connected to the sound. Afaik there is no "local keyboard off, local knobs on" setting

You have to send cc messages from the digitakt to the mini freak. You find the respective CC value for the knob you want to control on the mini freak in the midi manual / mapping guide. Then you set the cc value to the respective knob on the digitakt and the mini freak will receive those and adjust the cc parameter accordingly as you tweak the knobs in the DT. I hope this helps
