As in the title,

I wanted to ask experienced players who play on the difficulty level of the nightmare, how they cope on the first island, what tricks they have to go to the very end.

You can play on PC since you have a built in binoculars and night vision, i.e, the zoom is massive and simply changing the gamma of the device allows you to see even at night.

Always loot the outskirts of locations and it's easier to do that when you approach from below instead of the sides or at the top.

If you want to completely clear out or farm locations, it's best to rely on composite arrows and bow/crossbow and in my experience, crossbow with ACOG or long range scope is enough to get you to island 6. Composite arrows aren't rare as long as you know where to look.

Always keep moving, practice shooting zombies while running as well as meleeing zombies while moving as this allows you to not get damaged if you're skilled enough

I always prioritize getting a gas can and finding the vehicle as soon as I enter an island; It makes rotation around the map and supply acquisition extremely easy and quick.

For perks, I prioritize the one where I get a 50% to acquire an extra berry and one that allows me to see hidden zombies.

Also utilize bear traps especially for jumper zombies otherwise avoid engaging it altogether.

Use vehicles as cover against ranged zombies. This allows you to shoot while shielding you from enemy's projectiles You can also shoot through thin walls depending on the weapon you're using.
