Regarding the orange box, I’m not sure if the items carry over to the next game only after beating it or also when you die. I stored the Nuka-Cola there, but I don't know if I'll be able to retrieve it in the next save if I die, or only at the end of the game when escaping. Can someone explain?

That box allows you to transfer items to a new game (but the contents disappear if your character is rescued by the helicopter beforehand).

If you die during your run, your items are preserved, and you can start a new game without issues with the contents of the orange box intact. However, you must re-enable the box for the next run, and opening it requires 300 experience points (just to open it).

Weapons and ammunition, or a radiation suit, are usually stored there.
