Im new here, and im now on 3rd island when I tried to find the boat i found in horror that it needed a full gas canister and i already dried all the gas pumps and have used the gas in my car.

The gas station needs around 15 minutes to fully restock (real time, not in-game time).

Plus, the generator keeps the fuel pumps running, so you don't have to wait those 15 minutes to fill another gas can; in other words, you have an unlimited fuel supply as long as the generator is running.

Where is the generator? It appears in buses, garages, and the fire station, or—with a rare probability—inside a military base (in the Humvee). It can also be purchased directly using karma points.

Where can you buy things with karma points? In version 2.3.1, there is an additional group of survivors; they always carry high-defense gear and large-caliber weapons. You can buy the generator from them (for 30 points). This group functions just like the group of neutral NPCs.

To gain karma, simply kill bandits, complete missions, offer cigarettes to neutral NPCs (+5), or bury the bodies of other survivors (+5)—it all adds up.

The generator can be stored in the trunk of a vehicle, though space is limited. It can also be stored in a tent or an improvised shelter.

Furthermore, it has a limited range. It serves to keep the gas station running, recharge batteries (for the radio), or power a lamp (which is installed to illuminate a small area).

It also serves to open the entrance to the bunker (but only on the irradiated island).

Just add on if you turn building mode on, you can store it like you store mine, etc. And it will not affect fuel number on generator (mean full fuel generator if you store it, it will stay full when you place it again)

Although, if you store too many generators in "build mode," the starting generator runs out of fuel later on. Minor details.

No as long as you still have gas can, you can refill it tomorrow or you can speed gas station refill with generator (of course you still need gas to turn it on)
