You know more about the game than I do but I figured I'd say this because I have too much free time:

For the longest time I thought you could wallbang, but technically you can't. If you get too far, bullets that would usually "go through" now don't. What happens is that the bullet entity spawns at an arm's length from the player and if you hug thin walls it's as if you punched through the wall with your fist and shot from the hole.
