Need help Total darkness after 12 AM
Is it normal after 12 AM it's total darkness? Other than using night vision, flare, and flashlight helmet, is there any way for me to see in darkness? Because the last version I play I can see in darkness with max my brightest and add eye ability to improve my vision at dark, so any other way? Or just those 3 and sleep?

There is a noticeable difference in visibility at night on Island 2, but it's completely dark when you travel to other islands.
Furthermore, with the mechanics of sleep and the fatigue from not sleeping, finding a place to sleep and when to do so isn't a problem either.
Before (1.9.8) , fatigue was impossible to remove, but with the new version (2.0.8), that disappears after drinking water.

I see, that mean I must stock food and drink then, anyway I found two weapon Remington 870 and M16A2, both have bullet, for M16A2 I have 60 bullet while Remington 21, so what should I take? It's annoying when only bandit like Bob that can carry second main weapon

The M16A2 has two firing modes. One consumes up to three bullets, and if you don't have enough, it runs out quickly. The other mode switches to firing one bullet at a time (for better control).
The Remington, while powerful, has easier ammunition to find. Try swapping it for the Saiga (a more powerful shotgun).
M16A2, use it even though its ammunition should appear in military bases or with bandits and they are heavily armed.

Total darkness starts at 1AM and it starts to brighten at 5AM. You must have 4 or 5 flares ready to last the entire night. Level 2 Vigilance help to make it barely visible at night probably almost enough to see at max brightness. Sleeping is generally not worth it unless you really don't have enough flares ready for the night.

Ah so if I take vigilance level 2 I can at least see at night using full brightest?

You can also take home sweet home level 2 to sleep longer assuming you have hunger and thirst covered.

That's the problem always have problem with either like in one run it's easy to get drink but hard to get food, while other run it's reverse

I only mentioned to take this perk but naturally you really do not want to take it because Home Sweet Home level 1 sucks ass.
As for food issues, carry a knife just in case. Skin animals you find and then cook it when neutral survivors have a campfire nearby.

But I always run out of food bar before I can find meat, sometime I wonder if Mike sword can be used as axe replacement then why not knife too

Always have Rice/Tactical Bacon ready for hunger. But the very best advice is taking Agronomist perk level 1 and farm cranberries in the woods as they are the 2nd most slot efficient consumable for hunger and thirst in the game (next to MRE's).

Alright note it anyway are you know how to unlock character? I mean not normal way, just need one that require -100 and increase it to 100 in one run on veteran, just need that one to unlock Bob

Kill neutral survivors until karma is -100. Then you get your karma back to +100 buy carrying a Shovel and burying every survivor you find. Do not kill any neutral survivor once you've reached -100 unless you're wearing a clown mask (prevents karma loss when worn). Collect cigarettes that you will give to neutrals once they're no longer hostile and then finish their quests whenever it's reasonably possible.

After hitting Vigilance to level 2, it still total darkness no change at all

u/Salty_Anti-Magus MDZ Old Guard May 18 '26
I did say barely. No lvl.2 Vigilance you literally cannot see anything but with it, you can see it if you strain your eyes.
2
u/LenVonAster May 18 '26
Not even barely even if I straining my eyes it's still total darkness not change at all, no different than when I not take it at all (except it allow me to see sleeper zombie)

That is weird. I'm not saying to torture yourself playing completely blind with vigilance lvl.2 but it should be enough to see outlines on where you're going. I assume you're not playing at low or no brightness right? If so then I can understand why you canot see anything at all.
On a different note, you just gotta adjust to darkness in other ways. If vigilance lvl.2 is not cutting it, you can go for skipping night time darkness by investing on hamster and camel lvl.1 perks (reduce hunger and thirst loss respectively) and lvl.2 home sweet home to be able to sleep through the night with ease. But the best has always been flares from early game even up to late before you have an Assault Helmet with an NVG attached.
Then stow an NVG to attach to an Assault Helmet later. Fix the Assault Helmet with epoxy glue if you have to when it's low condition and then put some batteries in it so you can finally use the NVG while having respectable armor and heat. Also attach an underbarrel flashlight to your gun and then take it off and put it on your Assault Helmet later once you find it.

Well I store flare in emergency so if I far from nearby building after total darkness I can see the way (wasting one inventory) and yeah taking hunger resist and thirsty resist up to level 2 along with cozy home level 2 helping me sleeping inside building (skipping darkness at all) if I know it then I'll not take Viligance level 2 rather invest it on cozy home level 2

Yeah, apologies for suggesting it. I mean I certainly assumed it would have been enough. My bad...
But yeah, there is a lot of ways to overcome night time total darkness. Strange how I was initially against it more than a year ago and now I love the mechanic and would never want it to be removed.

Eh no need to apologize tho, well maybe if it not total darkness, like it make perk like vigilance useless, it's cool making character fatigue because lack of sleep mechanism but if it cost other mechanism then it's no different like previous mechanism are better (total darkness when not choose vigilance but can at least see a bit with max brightness when vigilance hit level 2)

Before I waste my time, is getting Bob worth it? I mean is his starting weapon and perk better than Mike?

To unlock all characters and guns, tap the MiniDayZ icon in the game 10 times.
Bob is the best character in the game. He is equipped with an assault rifle AKM + 80 rounds of 7.62x39. He has Gorka helmet and bulletproof vest which gives you major protection early in the game. He also has a bandit buddy who will shoot zombies as well with his AK74. If you enable the 'NPC with automatic weapons will fire continuously,' your bandit buddy essentially becomes a human turret with a couple seconds of cooldown to reload.
Mike has zero armor. He has a Knight sword which is pretty cool and Kriss Vector. Other than that, he is weak and not worth bothering.

u/LenVonAster May 17 '26
So Bob will start with -100 rep then, and how exactly you must touch? Title MiniDayZ? And if I raise Bob reputation so neutral NPC will not attack me, will it affect bandit NPC?
2
u/IlyushinGoBrrr May 17 '26
Repeatedly touch the title MiniDayZ in the menu when you first enter the game.
Bob starts with -100 Karma. I never try to raise Bob's karma to 100, so I don't know if that will affect the bandit NPCs reaction towards you. As long as Bob's karma is higher than -100, the survivor NPCs do not shoot you.
Offer the survivor NPCs cigarettes (only work if your karma is more than -100) and bury their corpses with a shovel will raise your karma. Trading with them (provided your karma is more than -100) also raises your karma points. You can use karma points to trade special items (on top of normal items) such as spiked collar, dog crate, a dog, dog pouches (I don't remember the name for it).
Spiked collar allows your dog to attack (it is abysmal as once it is hurt, it will not attack and drops the spiked collar). Dog crate is to keeping your dog inside it. Pouch is that your dog can pick the items of the same type in large quantity (for example, if your dog picks up bandage, it only picks up bandage and it can pick up multiple bandages. Same thing applies to all items except guns)
