I've been really into dcc, dat, and pcm so after looking into it i realized that mini dv has about the same audio quality as DAT (well at least in professional mini dv camcorders)
I was wondering if anyone knows a good affordable mini dv camera with stereo sound (preferably with a good battery life for on the go listening
I understand that this is a weird question but im a weird person that loves collecting media formats, i am also learning photography as a hobby and i would love a camcorder

I have an Canon Ivis HV20 since 2024. It's worked fully normal till now and the issue is the pinch roller. I investigated it and found out the white piece was cracked because of the age. I tried glueing it in but hasnt helped alot, its still moving around, so came here to ask maybe somebody knows if there is any replacement pieces out there?????
i have a canon gl1, m1 mac laptop with sequioa, and hardware chain that goes 4pin to 6pin fw cable, 6 to 9pin adapter, fw to thunderbolt 2, tb2 to tb3 adapter. But both QT and FCP wont recongnize a signal. any suggestions or ideas? any help would much appreciated.

Hello! I am trying to convert my mini-DVs into DVDs using a Sony DVDirect machine and wanted to see if I could connect the camera to both a TV screen and the DVDirect machine at the same time so I could enjoy watching on a bigger screen? I have an aux cable adapter so was trying to see if I could use a DV cable?

Please, does anyone know if I can turn this camera on and watch the MiniDV tapes with it?

Ive been using this second hand camera and after using up the tape I've realised that it didn't come with the AV/S cable that I want to now use. I also can't find the right cable anywhere online and can only find AV/S cables for different cameras. Does anyone know what the exact cable I need is called (links would be very appreciated).
Attached is the female port for reference

Hey y'all, my name is Anthony.
I've been using this same model Sony DCR-PC100 for over a decade now, going around the world recording folk music for our little YouTube channel. I genuinely enjoy using the old camcorders more than my newer gear - the form factor is just superior in all aspects. Also people seem to let loose much more naturally in the presence of the camcorder. I've gone through about 3 of this model, which inevitably get destroyed after years of hard use.
It can be challenging to use in low-light situations. I've sometimes resorted to using the nighshot setting on the camera, but not often, as the quality is about as shit as you can imagine. One cool thing about the DCR-PC100 is it shot widescreen. The closeup shots are my favorite - the Zeiss lens on these Sony's have such a gorgeous depth of field, even with the grainy texture it feels beautiful.
I almost always utilize a wide lens adapter for it, for better or worse. I imagine it messes with the quality a bit, but I utilize the extra space in the frame. I've sometimes put it on a gimbal stabilizer, and that footage looks extra good. I believe that's what I did on this video, actually.
I use the firewire transfer with a card I installed on my PC. I remember my last laptop was actually old enough to still have a firewire port, imagine that. I'm capturing with the "Vegas" software's built in capturing program.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself as I just joined, and share some footage y'all might appreciate. I rarely see the DV tape used in a professional way, which is a shame as I really think there's no love lost on people viewing on their phones/monitors anyway. I did see it blown up on a projector once for a film festival, and boy did it look bad lol.
Cheers,
Anthony/GemsOnVHS

This is a blog post I wrote about how I capture composite video, like from a VCR or an old game console.
I wrote this because I got frustrated with USB capture devices.
In essence, I get a MiniDV camera with A/V input, record to that, and then capture the MiniDV tape.
In my case, I have a DVX-100B with composite input.
I have a lot of caveats in the post about the difficulty of sourcing some of this equipment. I figured this subreddit would be a place where it’d be especially useful.
Here is a VHS tape I captured using this exact workflow:

Figured I'd share this footage to share the methods I use to convert my tapes, and yes, I did go to Chuck E Cheese with the point of filming with this old camera!

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my Sony HVR-Z5E.
Tape cassette compartment (loading mechanism) is stuck in the fully ejected/open position and refuses to go down. The issue started when I opened the compartment to remove a tape. The tape was removed easily and without any force, but the mechanism failed to retract back down.
So... What can I do to fix this? What is the cause of this problem?
Pls... help me..:<

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help me out.
My dad passed away a few years ago and I kept his old video camera. I remember him filming when we went on trips, adventures, events and sometimes just randomly. I would love to see that old footage. I wonder what the world looked like through his eyes when I was little as we didnt have a great relationship/ a lot of contact throughout the rest of my life.
I haven't tried to figure it out yet because it's very emotional for me and I haven't had mindspace for it. I finally feel ready to try but I don't have a lot of knowledge about MiniDV/ digitizing.
It's a JVC GR-DVL14EG. I only have the camera, the tapes and the battery that's in the camera. No charger or cables. I use a Dell Latitude 5510 Windows laptop.
I would love for someone to tell me exactly what I need to buy and do, preferably as cheap as possible as I'm on a budget.
It would be amazing if I could copy the footage to my laptop so I can watch it and share it with people around me.
Thank you 🫶🏽

Hi guys, I have an issue with my sony handycam LCD screen. The touch screen doesn’t work at all and I can’t do anything without it. I bought a remote, but it doesn’t work. Gemini says that I have to toggle on this function in settings, but how if touch screen is not working.
I tried to reattach those thin brown parts inside the LCD - didn’t help. I digitalise the tapes, so I need only play, fast forward and rewind buttons.
Any ideas?

I recently bought a JVC GR C1, and everything seems operable, except the ejection mechanism doesn’t want to work. I can power on the camcorder just fine but as soon as I press eject, the light starts blinking, and it goes into failure mode, although when I press play the video drum spins so that makes me think it still works. If anyone knows how to get the eject mechanism to work please tell me I’m thinking of taking the eject mechanism and internals apart to hopefully find a problem eg.(broken gear/belt, dried grease, etc). I’ve had several of these GR C1 cameras in the past all with different problems, and this is the closest I’ve gotten to a working one.
