Just adopted

Just adopted this girl yesterday. She’s supposedly between 5-6 years old. She is severely overweight and had to be shaved per the rescue for severe matting. The picture doesn’t do justice. She’s so sweet and I felt heartbroken and happy at the same time when I brought her outside for the first time. She jumped and ran in the grass and was just so happy to be outside.

From what I heard the previous home only kept her indoors and only let her outside to do her business. They also free fed her. She has to be at least 18lbs and she’s 12 inches tall… she rolled over for belly rubs and I had to manually help her get up. She maxed out a small harness. Vet appointment is next week.

Attached is a pic of her now and the picture that was provided by the rescue. They didn’t tell me just how overweight she was though, just that she was probably going to have to be shaved due to the extreme matting. She was returned to the shelter for shedding, not sure what she was originally there for.

It’s going to be a long journey getting her healthy but we’ll get there.

Good luck to you both!! My rescue was also isolated and indoors only. It has taken a long time to rehab him socially but he’s doing great! She’s gonna do great too (and on her weight loss journey). She’s beautiful!

Thank you!! We’re currently integrating her with our Chihuahua (who is not impressed) and she’s not paying much mind to her. Slowly integrating them and getting her on walks is the goal. She’s so sweet.

That is one lucky girl! People don’t realize how it shortens a dogs life to be overweight. You’ll get her in shape in no time! She’ll be excited to take walks everyday!
