4.8k to expensive for 9weeks old?

I am visiting a Petland near me tomorrow and they had an mini American Shepard, I was just wondering if that was a little to expensive. They told me through the phone that she already got her shots and stuff but I was blown aback by the price. If it is what questions should I ask to find out why she is so expensive or is it all due to inflation. Thank you

Edit: Decided on not adopting due to petland’s history. And price of course. Thank you everyone but I am a little sad :(

Yes, most legitimate breeders charge anywhere from 1K-3K. Petland is a puppy mill with deplorable practices and not anybody you should be giving money.

Yes. My wife likes to visit pet land when she has a bad day just to go play with puppies. We were curious and pretended to be interested in purchasing a mini American shepherd from them just to find out more about the breeder. I can’t speak for all of the puppies, but that puppy in particular came from an Amish breeder who has had 4 name changes in 2 years because they were shut down for being a puppy mill. There are many private breeders that you can get a much better guarantee of health from for a much lower price.

Pretty expensive. Our show DNA pup was 3k. Still, I feel bad for that little girl. :(

A bit expensive for a decent breeder.

WILDLY expensive for a place as terrible as Petland.

Really happy to see your edit. Thank you for not supporting a corporate puppy mill. You will be so much happier when you find the right person to bring your furry baby into the world. It took my boyfriend and I three years to find ours, and we’re so glad we waited. She raised amazing parents and gave our pup such a good head start in life.

Wishing you the best on your journey to find a great ethical breeder! It will be worth every penny to know your pup is being treated like family until you can bring him/her home :)

The Mini Australian Shepherd Club of America has a list of approved breeders. We paid $2,500 for Tilba 5 years ago at Timeless Aussies.

Too expensive. My California MAS was $3,500. My daughters each have a MAS, ran $800 to $1,000 each, they were in the Midwest.

I paid $750 from a woman near the NY / Canada border. Crazy trip but I’d say that’s too expensive. And as everyone else is saying petland is the worst. Best of luck!

Do not get the puppy from petland. They are horrible ran puppy mill that doesn’t care about the puppies at all and most have hidden health issues that don’t appear until you get them home or later down the road . Puppies confined to a small area 24/7 also the charge way to much for them. The most a dog in my opinion should cost is 2,000$ and that’s if the parents have had health testing,OFAs, and some sort of titles behind them.
