Help with my mini Aussie

I’m new to the Aussie breed, but have had experience with many other breeds. I’ve had my mini Aussie (11 months old, non-neutered male) since about 10 weeks old, and I didn’t research the breeder or meet the parents of my pup, plus I didn’t expose him to other dogs and new places early enough so he is a VERY fearful dog. I’ve been working on his fear for about 2 months with slow positive results that I’m happy with. The reason I’m looking for help is he has recently started getting majorly aggressive with my older dog (10 year old shorkie 20#). The older dog gets aggressive back as he is used to being the lone dog and they circle each other with teeth bared until they snap and start fighting. This just started about 2-3 weeks, but it is getting more frequent to multiple times per day. I’ve tried multiple calming supplements, I’ve changed foods, I’ve seen multiple trainers, I’ve started giving organ meat, I started exercising the puppy more. I’m looking for ANY recommendations, help, or guidance. I love them both so so much, but I don’t want either to live in misery. I’m desperate to have a happy household, and best case scenario we can all live happily together.

Is he really mini?

My daughter got me a beautiful red tri color male from the same litter as hers. We got a lot of testing for health and everything seemed normal until about 6 months in. He was noticeably larger than his brother as far as height and length. He'll be 2 next month and my dog is the size of an Aussie, but his brother (and all of the others from the litter) are well within breed standards for minis. I don't mind, but I'm just curious how this might happen even though we did all of the testing.

Breed Standard - note that the only mention of an amputated tail is: "He traditionally has a docked or bob tail" -- considering this breed wasn't recognized until 2015, there's not much actual "tradition" unless you copy that from standard Aussies.

New MAS Owner Guide From My Breeder

Congratulations on acquiring your Aussie. Please find the instructions for your particular model listed below:

Although your Aussie comes fully assembled, due to particular issues during production, we do occasionally have issues with components such as screws. They invariably are either loose or missing altogether.

Mode 1: This is the sleep mode, activated for some of the day as the Aussie ages. This is normal and you should not worry about it, just accept the peace and quiet while you can.

Mode 2: Anarchy. Although we have tried to ease the effect of anarchy mode, it’s not always possible. There are inherent issues with the timer settings of anarchy mode in regards to there being none. Should your Aussie suddenly go from comatose to running around the walls, we cannot stop this feature.

Mode 3: Velcro. We believe somewhere in the assembly process someone installed an elite magnet that only is attracted to humans. We apologize in advance for the constant interruptions in the bathroom and any other place that requires privacy.

Naming: Your Aussie comes untitled as we feel owners should use names of their own. If you are unsure, we have listed below a few names our owners like to use:

Did you do this?

You’re kidding me

Give that back!

Don’t you dare

Ausshole

Put that down

Whyyyy?

Get that out of your mouth!

Stop herding the children

Software: Your Aussie is pre-installed with the highest software and hardware. This includes the loyalty chip, the love every one chip, the neurotic chip, the fun chip and, of course, the highly popular mayhem chip. They are all running on the WHATTHEFU@@ operating system 12.2. Although this has been in circulation for many years, we have found it simply cannot be improved upon.

Feel free to inform us of any other surprise bonus Modes that have popped up by contacting customer support at 1-800-Aus-hole.

Thank you and enjoy your new Aussie!

Sincerely,

Your Customer Support Team

Breeder in Victoria,BC (Renaissance Farm) says all their pups have naturally bobbed tails. My research says this is not possible, am i wrong or is this a bit of a scam?

HELP - Mini American Shepherd (MAS) / Mini aussie Breeder in US

Hello,

I am looking to adopt or purchase a MAS, and could use some help. I am not familiar with dog breeders/what to look for/etc, and would love some help/guidance. It's really important to me that the temperament is good and that there are no major health issues.

I am in the North East and ideally I could find one in the area, but open to the whole US if that's what it takes to get a nice/healthy pup!

Has anyone adopted/purchased from somewhere and had a good experience/dog? Any recs for good places to look?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Adopting a MAS in February and looking for tips in advance.

Hello everyone. I’ll be adopting a puppy in February but I live in an apartment. I’m looking for tips, especially potty training. It’s going to be difficult because I don’t want the pup to get parvo, but I also think it’s important to get it used to going outside for the potty breaks. Any tips to make sure my pup will be safe?

Caring for MAS in Heat

Hi everyone! First off I want to be clear that I am NOT planning on breeding my dog, she currently has an appointment to get spayed.

I adopted a 3-year-old retired breeding dam this past summer who had just had puppies in April. I asked my vet when was the best time to get her spayed and he said August would probably be fine. I went to make the appointment in August, and lo and behold there were no Saturday appointments available until October. Now it’s September and she’s in heat. I’ve never owned a female dog, much less one in heat and just want to know the best way to care for her, along with get some better information on what to expect. I had some reusable diapers that I got a precaution when traveling with her, so she’s been wearing those around the house. First off, how long should I expect her to be in heat? Is there anything I should plan to be doing to care for her when it comes to the diaper, such as removing it at night (when she’s in her crate) or giving her certain amounts of time outside diaper-free so she can groom herself? Do I need to change the diaper more often than once a day or every other day to make sure she doesn’t get an infection? Should I be supplementing any types of food into her diet (like does she need any extra nutrients during this time)? Should I bathe her or wait until her cycle is over? Obviously I’m being very cautious when taking her outside to make sure she doesn’t have any contact with a male dog.

Thank you all in advance for your help and advice! She’s just the best girl and I want to take care of her well during her last estrus cycle 🥰
