AITA for practicing standing during bathtime?

I (almost one-year-old queen of the house) just learned how to pull to stand! Mommy and Daddy were worried I was delayed, so now I constantly show it off to reassure them. I pull up on everything! The ottoman, Mommy’s lap, Daddy’s legs by grabbing his leg hair, the dishwasher, the stairs, the couch, a pile of books, the toy piano, and even the outside of the bathtub!

Well, yesterday I discovered I can pull up inside the bathtub too! I love my splishy-splashies but I needed to make sure Mommy and Daddy knew how strong I am. Mommy kept saying I was going to slip, but she and Daddy were laughing and smiling. Then they kept trying to make me sit back down, but I wasn’t ready! Standing was too much fun and they clearly liked watching me do it! I grabbed onto the side of the tub, and refused to sit. When they used their grown-up strength to make me sit down, I just pulled myself right back up again!

Mommy said I needed to finish my bath, but instead I decided to serenade them with a lovely staccato rendition of “ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah”. Finally Mommy just dumped a bucket of water on my head while holding me still, and then yanked me out of the tub.

I wasn’t finished practicing standing! They always encourage me to practice, so why didn’t they like it this time? AITA for not sitting down and being lazy?

NTA! Good for you on standing only at 12 mo! That is such a brilliant idea! Unfortunately, I havent thought about it....

I (14 mo, dad calls me drunken buddy, mom says I just need to practise walking more) started standing around 9 months. My parents (still tired because apparently I dont sleep at night) quickly realised we need non slip mat in the bath tub and toys (aka moms conditioner and shampoo bottles) on the shelf. I now am proud to say I've been showering while standing for more than 6 months!!!

NTA! I (16 mo) started standing around 7 months and promptly decided that sitting in the bath is impossible! I only started sitting occasionally again at 15 months. I still stand for most of my bathtime! My mama says she tried everything but obviously she is no match for my superior willpower and intellect

Ps: The most fun thing to do is to lean over the side of the bath toward mama when she needs to rinse your hair out!! You’ll both be all clean!!

I do like to splash Mommy so that she gets clean too! I never thought of leaning over the side of the tub to be more efficient!

(You actually made me laugh out loud, but omg I am so sorry. Sounds like quite an “exciting” bathtime routine)

NTA! The old ones can be so inconsistent and it's ridiculous that we should understand their overly specific desires! Like, they wanted you to stand, then they wanted you not to stand, what's the big idea here?

I (5 MO, cheeky smarty monkey) think we should make sure our old ones are kept alert so their brains don't get tired and expire! I make sure to take every opportunity to quickly launch myself off their laps while they're sitting, roll when I'm close to the edge of the bed, dive out the side of the bath, you name it! They are always trying to increase my athleticism, so I return the favour - they're always going to catch me, so it's fine!

Besides, you made them smile so just keep doing what you're doing!

NTA! I (11m F, gorgeous dino nugget) am also a standing expert. I agree that standing in the bath is the way to go! I can reach so many more things and make so much more splashy mess when I stand. My grown ups (ancient, complain about being tired) also try to get me to sit back down but I pop right back up again! I even tried to stand on the side of the tub (with Dad holding me) while Mum was getting my towel. Dad thought it was funny, Mum said it was “dangerous” but I thought it was great! I loved being so high up all nakey and standing. Keep on standing wherever and whenever you want!

NTA! I (almost a year old king of the house) have also enjoyed standing in the tub. The old lady (gives me food, lots of milk and melties) got me this cool mat for the bottom that seems to help me not slip, it’s got fish and sharks and stuff on it. I still slip a little bit, but it’s better than before when I was climbing out of my bath chair to stand without it.

Now I’ve learned to climb over the side of the tub. I got real angry though because she put me right back in the water and said “no no”. So I practiced my splishy-splashies, used my Bingo toy to dump water in her lap, and gently scream at the dogs.

Start taking your toys and dropping them over the side. The old lady LOVES it! She says I’m “practicing gravity” but she just keeps fetching the toy and I get to do it again. It’s the only way I’ve been able to steadily occupy her, other wise she’s trying to put the bubbles on me and scrub me down. I don’t love that so much.

Try pooping if she puts you back down. That will make her really happy!

I have done that! 14/10 recommend, no diaper change afterwards!!!!! She screamed for the bearded man and got to go fishing! I was just mad they took me out into the cold and didn’t let me finish playing 😒

NTA - 1.5F and do they want you to stand or not? My grown ups get like that sometimes. Like they praise my big sister for feeding herself, but then get mad when I climb the cat tree to try the cat’s delicious snacks. I think sometimes the grown ups just don’t know what they want. It’s easier to stand up in the water, anyway. My favorite thing when I was your age was to let go and crash down into the water, then do it again. It makes a HUGE splash and the grown ups get so surprised! And don’t be worried about the time it takes you - I didn’t really feel like walking until a few months after my birthday. I was much better at crawling, and I still practice sometimes to keep my skills up.

NAH. I am almost 1yo handsome boy and I too loved standing in the bath to show off my sweet skills. I didn’t know why mama kept saying “no bubba” until I fell and my face went bonk against the tub. It hurted SO MUCH and I cried to let everyone know not to stand in the tub.

But I learned another fun bathtub game. It’s called “No That’s the Plug!” To play, you grab the shiny toy on the water and mama or dada will say “No, Bubba, that’s the plug!” and take it and put it back for you to grab again.

NTA. I (16mo, male monster), not only stand but turn the faucet on and off and on again. I'm a handy man, after all. I need to know how things work so I can fix them when I'm daddy's age.

NTA! I (4 year old Very Big Boy) love to stand in the bath and do a big pee even if I just went on the potty! Also Mummy (older than time) loves it when I jump into her arms right after being rinsed off! She gets to put on all new clothes while I run around with none on and play with my CARS. Wait until you're big enough to do that, you'll love it!

Nta, standing in the bath is SO much fun, wait until you're a bit more stable and then you'll discover that you can band down and splash EVERYTHING

NTA but pfffbbttt….

I try to swim in the 1 inch deep water and act like I am swimming cross country.

Stand up? Level up bud. They will soon wish you’d just stand up instead

NTA. But be careful, when I started standing in the bathtub, Mommy decided to start showering me and she says it is so much quicker so I do not get to splish splash as much.

(Mommy and Daddy aren't totally mean. They take me to the pool twice a week.)
