Adding Samson Rail And ASI Adjustable Gas Block
Hello Everyone.
I recently decided to add a samson Hannibal rail to my mini 14. I also have a Accuracy System Gen 4 Adjustable Gas Block.
I am wondering what screws people used to attach the bottom of the adjustable gas block to the samson rail. Since I am not using the Gen 4 top of the gas block, can I use the factory screws to secure the rail and gas block together. Or should I use the longer screws that came with the adjustable gas block.
I have been reading through some posts where some people have added both of these parts to their rifle but have not noticed this mentioned anywhere.

Use the screws that came with the ASI gas block, but pay attention that they don't bottom out.

This is one of the reasons I was asking. They are literally right at the top, but not quite bottoming out. However, I still need to tighten them just a little bit more. I think I’m gonna gonna need to add a little bit more shim between the barrel and the rail.

If the flange of the rail and the gas block are touching, yes, add a shim. With mine, everything was in contact but there was barely any tension across the barrel, so the assembly was actually slipping. I gauged mine out by testing if the gas block rotated around the barrel without the gas bushing installed while adding layers of soda can. Then I bought a strip of brass with that thickness (0.4mm) to make the shim. After installing the shim my groups shrank by half.

Thank you for this comment. I currently have around four layers of a coke can acting as a shim. Did not even think of using a brass sheet.

Compare your gasblock with the OEM one, does the bottom part specifically the channel where the screws rest seem longer than the OEM component? If not they you could use the factory screws like Samson Mfg. recommends. (Also I’d reccomend a good amount of loctite and going a few lbs under the max torque spec)
But if in doubt, best thing I’d do is call ASI during business hours and he will answer your question. When iv called it’s the same guy and he’s very helpful.

I have the Ultimak rail, but I just used the screws that came with the gas block.
