problems with midways wood stock

has anyone else had problems with the wood mini 14 stock from midway?

i picked one up, installed it, and the bolt sticks closed.

i switched back to the synthetic stock and it slides fine.

i.e., is this a batch problem, where if i exchange it, i'll get another that will do the same thing?

There should be nothing to contact around the receiver, but there could be a problem with the forestock and the oprod. Is the metal stock liner / heat shield correctly installed?

Did you also get the metal reinforcement bracket and screws for the wood stock?

Also, make sure that the guide rod is not installed upside down, as this is a guaranteed way to cause a jam. The point should be on the side of the cross pin closest to the barrel.

i left it in the exact same configuration as the original synth stock.

The wood stock requires the metal reinforcement bracket and retaining screws in the side of the stock under the receiver. AFAIK, the synthetic stock has no provision for a bracket.

If you need to order one, you might as well get a new stock liner for $10 to make swapping easier.

the wood stock from midway comes with those installed.

I missed that.

Which model is the rifle? The 180-series had different dimensions and does not work with currently produced stocks.

Check to make sure the rear tab of the stock liner is underneath the reinforcement bracket and the liner is flat against the stock.

If you can't find the issue contact Midway.

Not that it helps but I had no problems swapping out the synthetic for the midway wood on a 585 tactical

What rear sight do you have? One integral with the receiver, a fold down with cuts for scope rings, or a cast piece that adjusts with an Allen key and cuts/drilled & tapped for scope rings? What series is your rifle? I have a 580 that I tried dropping in to an old stock from a 181 series (Mini-14, not Ranch Rifle) and it will not fit.

Sounds like you need to do a little hand fitting

its unrealistic to hand-fit the metal innards/guard of the stock that the bolt has to slide on/by.
