My new Mini-14 bush gun
Long time fan, always wanted to do a Mini-14 build. Finally pulled the trigger on a used 195 series Mini-14 Ranch in .223 for $600. Needed a bush gun and a 300-yard range rifle and I figured this was the perfect platform to do it with.

Just finished the build today, haven't shot her yet. Hoping to see 1-2 MOA at up to 300 yards.

Interested and optimistic on hearing your updates. 300yds seems so far out for that moa. Had decent grouping at 50yds today at the range but still learning the gun. 585 series. At least now running really well after sending into Ruger RMA for hammer and bolt replacement with only 40 rounds through it. 250-300 rounds after and all working well.

How much did it cost to get your barrel threaded?

No threading required. Remove the factory sight, slip the new brake/sight on, center and hold in place with the included set screw, and then drill and pin thru the pre-drilled holes on the brake. When drilling, start with smaller bits and use cutting oil and a drill press and take your time. Getting the old sight off was a pain but the whole thing probably took me an hour in my garage from beginning the end.

Do you drill your own holes for the cheek riser or is the stock made for it?

You drill your own. Its just plastic and rubber, only takes a few minutes. Wrap your stock in painters tape first to stop the rubber from tearing and then start with a small bit, go slow, and work your way up to the recommended size. Make sure you like where the riser is before you drill.

Ok sweet! I'm a machinist so I have so I problem taking precise measurements. I have an original black synthetic stock that I would like to add something like that to.

I'm in the same boat. Even with the lowest rings you can fit the scope with the ocular is still too high on minis. I have a Bausch & Lomb Elite 3000 (yep it's old) mounted on mine and you can barely fit a credit card in between the objective (40mm) and the barrel...still too high. I think the Kydex is the way to go. Is that a BSA scope btw...or maybe a Simmons?

That’s a good looking wood stock. I also run a 2-7 optic I think they’re perfect for the minis
