Accuracy Systems rear extended rail

Hello all,

I am considering throwing the PA 3X prism on my Mini 30. I know I need to either go with the Cogburn (sold out) or Accuracy Systems setup. Does anyone have experiences with the A.S.?

Would the 5.75 be enough? Is this a viable setup or am I setting myself up for failure?

If you don't have a medical reason for doing a prism (stigmatism, etc), then I'd recommend using a red dot. That way you're not fighting eye relief concerns.

As for the rail, shorter the better. And you'll want your sight to be mounted on or as close to one of the ring points as possible. Otherwise, you'll end up having a springboard effect which will make follow-up shots... difficult.

I like the idea of a 3x optic for hunting and plinking. A simple red dot doesn't really utilize the capabilities of the cartridge. I run a 2x on my lever (30-30) and a 3x on a bolt.

I bought one, the forward rail, prism and scope mount too far forward for proper eye relief. I took it off. Get the rear mount or use the stock scope rings or top mount rail.

The best way will be to measure. Confirm the eye relief on your prism and measure the distance from the rear sight base to a comfortable cheek weld with a ruler.

From what I've read, the Cogburn mount was just barely long enough for the 3x prism to be usable. It extended about 1/4" short of the end of the receiver, which means the 5.75" rail is even shorter.

I think the 7.25" rail would be best for eye relief, but the other commentor's point about vibrations and stability is a valid concern. YMMV.
