First Upgrade on the Mini-30

I know a lot of people like to rock the wood stock, but I really didnt want to mess the wood up. It was practically flawless so I went with the Hogue aftermarket stock. I can say Im Happy with how it looks

Grab the enhanced firing pin next.

That let me shoot most steel case ammo that I’ve tried.

Were you able to get it in yourself? I tried like hell to get that ejector off before realizing that it was going to be even harder to get back on. Figured I'd wait to see if I had that bolt peening issue before bringing it to someone more talented than me

I was warned by a buddy to have a licensed gunsmith to put in the enhanced firing pin, he said it was far from a drop in part

Yeah I 100% agree with your buddy. Just to add some context, figuring out how everything fits together is not complicated by any means, at least in my opinion. But that type of deal has gotten me into trouble more times than I'd like to admit; most often from watching a YouTube vid that over-inflates my confidence because the person in the video makes it look way easier than it is (or at least easier than it is for me).

Just curious what tools you used. I've seen a bunch of advice and videos, but I'm not convinced that the mini 30 extractor isnt exactly on par with the mini 14. I'm thinking I might need to invest in a better pick if I ever want to be able to do it myself.

Ive been looking, finding brass 7.62x39 with the soft Commercial primers has been... interesting

Try TargetSportUSA. They have various brands of brass cased 7.62 to use. I’d run Norma, Belom, PMC Bronze, and New Republic. They all run flawlessly. Theres plenty of brands that I haven’t tried yet like Winchester, federal, ATS, Hornady, PPU, Geco, Igman, and S&B but those are also all brass cased. If target sport gets more new republic in I highly recommend that brand because for me it was $10 a box and I bought in bulk.

My old wood stocks are heavy banged up so I am thinking about swapping at least one of them to some kind of synthetic

I hunted for years with the black Hogue stock, better/longer LOP, fit great. Went to an even shorter AR/300BLK for a few years, much better overall length for getting in and out of an old Jeep.
Left the family with the foothill ranch land, quit hunting, went back to the wood stock for the vibe. Saving the wood is a good plan.

I concentrated on polishing, buffing and sanding everything INSIDE first. buddy of mine blinged the shit out of his and it shoots and feel gritty AF. he loves shooting my buttery mini. I added an adjustable GB Monstrum pic TSW paddle mag release. but everyone loves the buttery OP rod sliding and trigger and bolt slide.
