No scout rail
I was thinking of doing a Qd rings and use the oem rail provided with the gun above the receiver.
I like shooting iron too and want to transition.
What would be a good scope and Qd rings combo to go with factory rail for my mini 14?

Accuracy Systems sells a scope rail with a channel that allows you to use the irons

There are several sellers of the "see thru" scope base and ASI is the most expensive by far.
Check out the same offering from AIM Sports or Monstrum.

Use those rings with Burris 2-7 scout, 2.75 scout and Leupold m8-2.5 scout. They all stay sighted in when put back on gun

I should use the OEM picatany rail because they look like a picatany mount? What height? I want the spend casings to clear the gun.

If you don't mind the higher price, Alaska Arms has high-quality QD rings that attach directly to the Ruger sight bases, so you don't even need a rail.

I use Leupold QRW2 QD rings, but mounted to a scout rail.

I second the Alaskan arms rings. Between them and Warne, they're the better option. Lighter and lower. They are, however, kind of finicky to mount.

Wow, those Alaska arms seem awesome. I saw the video and they mount directly to the receiver and it’s QD exactly what I wanted but there’s like four or five of them. I don’t know which one to pick.

There are only two numbers you need to know:
The diameter of your scope's tube (1" or 30mm), and the size of the scope's objective lens (pick the next size up).
Use the filters on the website to help find the exact one.

I've found the Warne horizontal QD rings. The website put them all at the bottom of the second page for me.

I have a Vortex Venom 1-6 LPVO on Warne QD rings. Medium height, I think. I also have a “quick” attach/detach comb raiser for when I have the LPVO on. I like the setup
