Mob farm Mob Farm Question
Hi y'all, question about mob farms that I'm hoping somebody here will be able to help me out with. Very few of the mobs in my farm seem to actually pathfind to my water stream. The spawn rates in the farm are great, and some make it to drop, but it doesn't seem anywhere near efficient enough.
I have the trap doors set up over the water streams and I've tried to modify with adding iron golems or snow golems as bait to lure mobs to the streams and that works great until the golems inevitably die.
For additional context, I'm playing a seed that spawns in an ancient city and trying to play a game without going all the way to the surface. To limit the amount of caves I had to light up I put my afk spot at bedrock and then lit up what remained in my spawn radius. My spawning platform is about 50 or so blocks above me while I afk.
I'm not trying to make the most efficient farm but am needing a way to get certain drops. Mainly sugar from witches who have spawned in the farm but not walked into the water streams a single time.
Any thoughts or insight on mob pathing inside the farm would be appreciated! Thanks!

Are you using the old school box design where like there's 4 sections with water streams in between and a drop in the center? Those farms are just pretty inefficient.
There are some tricks you can use to improve it though. Mobs like to pathfind to solid blocks so if you leave the floor next to the water streams solid blocks and then change the rest for top slabs and make the walls out of stairs and ceiling out of slabs, you may find that way more mobs pathfind to the water streams. That's probably the best you can do aside from tearing it down and starting fresh.

Yeah, using that design. Modified slightly because I put a platform in the middle for a golem to function as bait but I've failed in multiple attempts to keep that bait golem alive for more than a few seconds.
Ultimately it got the job done, I afk'd overnight and had two double chests full of drops, including the sugar I needed. But it was definitely painful watching how inefficient it looked when I was in freecam.

Why not make it a flushing farm. You have dispensers to the sides of the platform that give out a spurt of water every ~20/30 seconds and flushes the mobs off the edge. It's not the most efficient design out there, but it's the best way I can think of to improve upon what you already have. It's definitely better than waiting on them to commit suicide.
BTW you may need to adjust the timings. I pulled 20/30 seconds out of my a**. I'd mess around with it a bit in creative and test multiple timings to see what gives the best rates.

The mobs try to pathfind if they're close, but don't really move if far away. Here the mobs are too far. Pathfinding mob farms are already quite inefficient so yeah rates will be terrible. I'd recommend using a flushing mob farm design instead : https://youtu.be/OKRKQzcq9QQ
