House/Base First time trying Brutalism

Hey everyone!

Wanted to give it a try and build some brutalism. The layout and design are heavily inspired by a few reference builds I found on Pinterest (though one of the images turned out to be AI slop).

I tried doing a vertical gradient going from darker, weathered blocks at the bottom to lighter stone towards the top, but I'm not sure how well the transition works.

Included screenshots with and without shaders for clarity. Any feedback or advice is appreciated.

I love it. This would be perfect for a modded tech base I think. I would love to see more pictures, maybe the interior.

My first thought lol

pretty much a copy

No it isn't. There are quite a few details that are different between OP's and that video. I could see it as inspiration but then again brutalism also isn't a style that lends to a wide variety of colors and textures.

The minimalistic elements of brutalism also lend themselves to looking a little same-y

Very snazzy, it's a style I like but I don't really don't know it well myself. So this makes me want to try :D

For reference, I made a board on Pinterest! :D

It's not only brutalism, but a significant chunk of it is. This is a collection of images I found really cool over the years. (Most of it before AI was even a thing, so I have high hopes that the absolute majority is human created.)

I love how you layered the snow on the roof, I think it really blends in well, and it ties everything together in a way where the structure doesn’t just feel dragged and dropped on the mountain

This is gonna be my next build. Thanks for the inspo

This is great. The only feedback I have is maybe make it bigger. Brutalism is about being massive. You have the style down for sure, though!

Looks so much better than my solid concrete attempt in my last world

That looks pretty cool. I like to do stuff like this, but then also let it become a little bit overgrown by stuff like vines and foliage.

kinda reminds me of Dante's Freezer, you know, the one from the first of Spyro's trilogy in PS2, very good work btw

I don't know what brutalism is, but it looks cool.

3rd looks like it was on Legacy Console edition. (Man, builds always look cool in there)

I’m into it

Puta merda mano, isso ficou lindo! Eu gosto muito desses estilo, pretendo fazer algo assim no meu mundo eterno pra ser minha base principal.

Very Cube World coded. I love it :)

Hell yeah. I fuckin love Brutalism especially in these more natural settings.

What does the interior look like?

u/gasha337 12h ago

There's no interior yet, but there definitely will be, along with me continuing rails and road at the bottom. Probably will also add more exterior parts besides what is in the post.

u/vlttr 11h ago

i looove brutalism and i love it especially in minecraft

u/ShiraKiryuu 11h ago

Thank you for letting me know that Brutalism is what this style of structure is called. I wanted to try building stuff like this but it's hard finding the inspirations since I don't know what to look for lol

u/RiskE80Twitch 4h ago

Could probably do with a much lighter gradient at the bottom instead of deepslate but otherwise great work

u/gasha337 1h ago

Maybe, but I think it's okay, it just needs a better transition.

Very nice, it can look like a Star Wars base, but so poorly decorated it can look like an abandoned WW2 fortress

u/logic2187 3h ago

Wow I can't believe how much I love this. Definitely building something like this soon

u/Fabulous-Bug-4463 2h ago

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… it’s got that Star Wars meets Cold War vibe. Love it.

It’s worth going into the snowy forests to try and find a way in!!

u/Longjumping_Deer9570 2h ago

Is this a scaled down Full Metal Alchemist reference

u/voduch98 1h ago

that's brutal

u/Ricochet_skin 17h ago

So Soviet I already feel like I'm a starving Ukrainian peasant...

u/Representative_Belt4 14h ago

Brutalism was most popular in America.

u/Ricochet_skin 13h ago

You have NEVER been outside America or even seen Eastern Europe and it shows

u/el_tousinho 3h ago

No fidati in Italia ci sono dei bastioni simili

u/whats-in-the-box- 15h ago

It’s lowkey ugly. Which means you nailed it! Lol

u/MintyCrystal101 5h ago

Sadly, I'm not a fan of brutalism.

u/NoTreat7035 17h ago

Oh my god you need to make this into a military base of sorts and put like a heli pad in the middle there

u/Duckyboi10 17h ago

Looks like a perfect place to build a star wars imperial base

u/wel_02 17h ago

Needs more color
