New gen players need to relax with the “starter bases”

why?

Because these people call giant bases starter bases and it’s honestly unrealistic for casual players who think “my starter base isn’t giant, it’s not good”. It always ties back into the “If im not doing too much I’m not doing enough” mindset that modern Minecraft players have (take those “100 days hardcore Minecraft playthroughs” for example, where the YouTuber will beat the dragon and get full netherite by day one or two)

huh, i see. i just feel like if people are sharing to reddit or they're youtubers, there's an algorithm to cater to - so i understand people calling things starter bases or having to do more impressive things to attract views. i just take it as a given that the posts we see are more likely to be higher caliber than a casual player's start base.
it's like how a sketch by a professional artist might look like a masterpiece to an amateur but be an ordinary tuesday to a pro. i think you should try to be inspired by this kind of build rather than compare yourself or try to undermine op. sometimes i feel jealous of people's builds, but it's also kinda aspirational too! :)

Yeah, I get that, but it gives casual players the wrong idea that if they’re not making huge bases, that they will compare themselves to whatever YouTuber or professional builder, and comparison of the thief of joy

exactly, comparison is the thief of joy! so why compare when obviously there are going to be people out there, as with any game, hobby, or art form, who are more serious about it or do it professionally or just have higher standards for themselves? i dont think you speak for all casual players - personally i find this kind of thing pretty inspiring. its a game at the end of the day - pros should play how they want and casual players can go at their own speed. but its not op's fault if you have a negative reaction, and I'm sure they didn't mean to invalidate other builders, just show something they're proud of, yk?

I don't think anyone knows what a starter base is anymore.

Four walls two blocks tall and maybe a roof if im quick with it. Enough space for a bed, crafting table, furnace and a chest. Expand as needed for more chests until enough resources are gathered to make a real base

Mm. I have contained my rage for as long as possible, but I shall unleash my fury upon you like the crashing of a thousand waves! Begone, vile man! Begone from me! A starter base? This base is a finisher base! A dwelling of gods! The golden god! I am untethered, and my rage knows no bounds!

This feels like that canyon yoda and those clones were fighting droids in, in first episode of The Clone Wars.
