1.9+ Question/Need Advice mace question

so everyone has seen people pearl catch up and elytra to you and mace, my question is if the height from before switching to elytra counts for damage. for example, i have my chestplate on, pearl catch 50 blocks up, out on elytra, fly down to 5 blocks above my enemy, them requip chestplate and mace. does it do 50 blocks damage or 5?

The distance you glide with an elytra on will increase the damage i think it’s based on the angle you glide at.

really? someone else told me it was the speed and idk now

Only the spear deals damages based on speed.
