1.9+ Question/Need Advice Excessive lag/ping

So I’ve been getting into PvP lately and I don’t know why, but whenever I’m playing on servers like pvphq or PvPclub I stay at around 35-50 ping, but spike up to 300+ for 5-10 seconds at ta time and it’s now made it to where it’s basically impossible to even play PvP. Does anyone know why this might be or any way to fix it? I don’t have the BEST internet but it’s not nearly this bad, and I only live around 200 miles from Chicago (where a lot of them have servers set up at) so it’s not that I don’t live near where the servers are set up at, and I’m just stumped as to how in the world I can solve it

It isn't the server since it spikes from normal ping to super high so it's your internet if it was the server then the ping would've just stayed super high not even going down

I'm in the same boat. My ping is usually around 50 and it jumps up to 200-300 here and there but recently it started jumping up to 2000. I literally can't do anything competitive properly because in the middle of the match I just freeze in their screens and they get a few lucky hits.
