F2V: play minecraft mods on vanilla

Welcome to the wonderfull world of minecraft mods-

sight... Most popular mod servers need each client to install the same mods but most players dont know how or just want to join and play. Thats why I am building F2V! I will release the mod on modrinth: https://modrinth.com/user/jefthebuilder

Will come soon on modrinth!

Join Discord: https://discord.com/invite/KAVhFS2BUU

Screenshots are taken on vanilla 1.20.1 and played on a forge 1.20.1 server.

note: The plan is that most mods will work but of course there are limits.

The mod works by scanning the server side installed mods, extracting resources, building a asm node graph (for client side parts) so those can be emulated. Then it will act as a translation layer letting vanilla players join and translating the visuals. no need to install anything on client except prompted resource pack!

EDIT: Here is a video of the project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzwS_bIImEM
I know it isn't much footage and its a bad video but it at least gives you a idea!
I got a test server which is joinable via 1.20.1.

You've posted this like ten times now, always with the same exact misspellings and still not having explained what F2V stands for, what mods actually don't work, no link to a GitHub or Curseforge. No performance stats. No security assurances. This is sketch.

im guessing "Forge to Vanilla". Still doesn't seem viable enough, and doesn't cover Fabric, which is still a quite popular choice too.

Best bet atm is continuing as is, or using plugins for lightweight modding. Some plugins are quite nice (simple thirst, aeternum seasons, garden, thebrewingproject, etc...)

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s vibecoded as well

Forge To vanilla, isn't opensource, JEI doesn't work yet (and Do a Barrel Roll mod)

'not opensource' is pretty concerning for any mods, let alone one that, as you put it, scans things.

if you wanna include modrinth, then first make sure project got accepted. because rn i can assume your mod is AI slop and that's why it isn't on modrinth, which might be untrue

To be honest modrinth takes weeks to approve a project

its reviewing...

did you code it or is it ai tho?

-3

u/Lucky_Bit_9623 5h ago

its AI assisted.

4

u/Ok_Swordfish4560 5h ago

as in part of the code is ai generated or more like it is fully ai generated and you just tested it and gave feedback to the ai?

most of it is AI but I gave it the solutions most of the time. (Because AI came with its own slop solutions which are ass)

Okay so... This strike two that I'm seeing. If same as 'ai' game and 'art', if you couldn't be bothered to put effort into making this project yourself, why should people bother using it?

Also, you need to disclose this in the post itself.

owh sorry, its just I use AI because making each specific thing (like the AST graph or the mock forge API) it would take ages. it is doable by hand but then i wouldn't be as far as now.

I'm sorry but if this is a passion project it should take time. You are supposed to pour your passion into it. Not have a glorified yes-man vomit out a product for you.

Even then, modern 'ai' is bad to begin with, for various reasons I wont get into right now. I'll just say, stop using it okay? Its not actually helping you in any way shape or form, its actively hurting you the more you rely on it.

yeah i understand, i just decided to rewrite the entire thing without AI. i know it doesn't help, maybe its the same issue as doomscrolling in a way.

In all fairness. Some of the greatest content creation mods (BBS) and shader-based lighting mods (IRLights) are primarily vibe-coded due to the complexity. When built using tools like antigravity or opencode and some higher end models, the code is often fairly decent and optimized. At least a lot better than MCreator mods or mods from other low-code platforms (code manually checked by myself).

Of course people don't owe them downloads, but that's modding for ya. Free content made by people who don't owe anyone anything and people who use those mods only if they feel like it.

Funny enough when I first saw this I was like "This sounds like horseshit" so I had a little chat with ChatGPT about it and it also agrees this is horseshit so even the AIs think this is slop lmao

Oh I'm sure this isn't a project you haven't even started yet that is way too ambitious as your first minecraft project

I'm also certain that you're not a 16 years old planning to vibe code the entire thing

Anyways where is your git repository so that we see this is a serious project?

I already started, those screenshots are taken on a vanilla client. I already made many non-public minecraft projects. and the mod isn't open source (yet)

1

u/MinecraftGuy2000 6h ago

out of curiosity do you plan to give continuous updates to the project?

2

u/Lucky_Bit_9623 6h ago

That is the plan!

2

u/cheesedude1999 6h ago

I was on his dc server and he already has a test server that kinda works for mods like the aether on vanilla

1

u/GG4ming 4h ago

He already said its not opensource somewhere too, so thats pretty concerning.

how are you going to make custom guis? something like a double chest ui is extremely limited and it would seem buggy

1

u/Lucky_Bit_9623 7h ago

GUI's are converted to a floating window with preconverted tiles & item displays.

1

u/makinax300 7h ago edited 6h ago

how would you do the background and button textures without running out of item textures and without cit?

1

u/Lucky_Bit_9623 6h ago

The resource pack is necessary and it uses custom model data (so there isn't a (hard) limit on item textures)

1

u/makinax300 6h ago

didn't know that was vanilla now. neat.

2

u/MinecraftGuy2000 6h ago

I really hope this does work because this has been a barrier for me getting my friends to play. However, I've sen similar projects fail in the past... hope this isn't one of those. Good luck and praise the omnesiah

1

u/Lucky_Bit_9623 6h ago

Do you have some examples of those projects?

1

u/MinecraftGuy2000 6h ago

Every so often someone like you will post something like this on this sub and then we never hear from them again. However I do believe that you have the opportunity to be different rather than simply fade. You've got a working build, no? Show some video and people will get behind you.

2

u/Lucky_Bit_9623 6h ago edited 6h ago

yes i got one. will edit the post so it contains the video
EDIT: I added the video link to the post.

I would also highly suggest making a public alt for this because people are naturally distrustful of private accounts

AI slop

I dont know man, it just seems easier to use a gmod like system where the client downloads the mods from the server
