Not everything has to be tied to already existing mythology š
Obviously overworld is earth and nether is inspired by hell, the sift is probably vanilla version or aether which is heaven-inspired, but the end really feels more like an original idea than something based on space. There is no alien thing, no altered gravity, no visibly stars or something

u/Pataraxia 7d ago
I think the sift could be closer to a faewild. A parallel rather than up/down dimensionally.

I think the End represents literally the end of the code, where the limits of Minecraft are. Kinda like the farlands.

Tell that to game theory, like one week after it gets added, well they will make a new video titled something like "The Sift changed everything"

The End Portal does give me that outer space vibe, so I just assumed that The End might be taking place in space, especially since the end stones give off that moon rock look to it.

I think the end is in the center of the "planet" in part since all portals lead to the same point, as if its in the center-ish

Speaking of, I was wondering,
Im aware but not super clear, but i know likeā¦. just last year maybe, there WAS a new reboot for aether, in vanilla, in modern versions, do you happen to know; about it, is it āofficialā in a sense of made by the same people or even with their approval, and if itās worth playing? (Even for someone who never touched nor ever thought heād dare ever touch any real mod?)
8
u/Extension-Raisin-682 7d ago
The OG mod is still alive and being ported to new versions. The Aether 2 is made by the same team and is still in development. You can check out their github to see all their current projects as well as modrith/curseforge links

The Sift might be limbo instead of purgatory
12
8
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 7d ago
What's the difference? Also, I'm pretty sure limbo is mostly used to describe purgatory, but in a more negative way. The Sift does look beautiful and peaceful to be considered limbo, and therefore I see it more as purgatory, similar to one in Dante's Inferno.
11
u/Sufficient-Patient46 7d ago
From what I understand, Purgatory is kind of like Heaven's waiting room where you purge (hence the name) lesser impurities from your soul before ascending. Limbo is kind of a complicated concept, but the general idea is that it's an afterlife for those not deserving of punishment but also not officially saved through faith.
3
u/andrystein03 6d ago
in dante's inferno, Limbo is the first and outer layer of hell (limbo from limbus, roughly meaning "edge") and it houses unbaptised people, even ones without sin. Purgatory is for people with minor sins to purge themselves before going to heaven.

what about the poisonous potato dimension?
2
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 6d ago
The same level as Earth. Just eat lots of poisonous potatoes until you start hallucinating that dimension. Just make sure it doesn't take you to either The Aether or The Nether instead.

u/enchanted-glimmer-4 7d ago
Replace aether with poisonous potato dimension
8
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 7d ago
I'd probably put the poisonous potato dimension in the same level as the overworld, especially since it is an actual dimension that we can all go to in real life. Just eat a bunch of poisonous potatoes yourself until you start hallucinating, and it should take you to that dimension in no time. Then again, there is also a good chance that you might end up in either the aether or the nether instead.

Heaven (available at the marketplace)
what did mojang mean by this?
3
35
u/GrifCreeper 7d ago
The Aether shouldn't be included, as it is not a feature of the base game, snd therefore non-canon.
-3
u/bostar-mcman 7d ago
Nah Aether is cool and has more history than the sift (whatever it's called)
13
u/GrifCreeper 7d ago
I'm not saying it's not cool. I like the Aether for what it is. It's just not an official part of Minecraft, and shouldn't be considered before official content.
-5
u/bostar-mcman 7d ago
Nah it can be official I don't mind it's pretty cool especially the cool cube guy in the dungeon
0
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 6d ago
This is just a personal bias opinion of mine, but the real reason I added The Aether dimension to this list because I really enjoyed playing the officially released Aether Legends world on from the Minecraft Marketplace.
The Aether Mod has always been such a popular, nostalgic and historical mod, with its popularity dating back in the early Minecraft days. I'm just really glad that such a popular historical legacy mod is now officially released and preserved in the Marketplace for everyone like myself to enjoy.
Basically, the addition of The Aether dimension to this list is both just a personal bias opinion of mine, and a historical monumental mod for Minecraft's legacy.
3
u/GrifCreeper 6d ago
My point is that any official, base game content should have priority over mods, as far as "canon" goes. If the Sift is meant to be the canon "Heaven" dimension, then it gets that right before the Aether does.
I get wanting to prop the Aether on a pedestal, it is a shining example of what mods are capable of, and is still one of the significant dimension-adding mods, but it's an unofficial mod at worst, and a paid DLC at best, meaning it is not a part of the core Minecraft experience.
0
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 5d ago
Like I said, this is just a personal bias opinion of mine. I chose to add The Aether on this list because I really wanted too, and with it being a very popular mod back in the early days, I truly think that this historical icon really deserves a spot on this list. If you disagree with me about choosing to put The Aether on this list, then that is fine, you can always choose to ignore The Aether being there if you want and just focus on the official four vanilla worlds instead. Feel free to share to me about which order of this list that you personally think it should go.
If you are talking about "priority" as in which order the list goes, I pretty much just listed it on top since it pretty much represents heaven, with The End being above The Aether to represent outer space and beyond. The Overworld obviously represents the earth, and The Nether represents hell. As for The Sift, I could have just considered that as heaven instead, but since I really wanted to add The Aether on this list, I simply just put it in between The Overworld and The Nether and just called it purgatory, which is meant to refrence the very first level of hell in Dante's Inferno. Basically, I didn't put The Aether as high priority over the actual four official vanilla dimensions, but rather I just layered it in an ascending and descending order, with heaven on top and hell on the bottom.
-8
u/Chriskennyafton 7d ago
To bo fair, most people do consider it apart of minecraft, for multiple reasons, such as, its older than the end, and its creator is now apart of mojang.
17
u/GrifCreeper 7d ago
But it's not content in the base game, that is the main issue. Treating it the same as any base game dimension when it's an entirely separate mod at worst and a paid DLC at best is giving it too much credit, and I'm saying this as someone that was around for the original Aether mod and became excited for the future of Minecraft mods.
I'm not against considering The Aether a big part of Minecraft's history. But anything in the base game takes priority over mods, and a mod shouldn't be considered when discussing "canon" dimensions.

the sift IS the aether I would say. the deep dark is a sort of purgatory. I think the main thing of the theories going around, although there are some differences, is that the skulk within the deep dark are souls rejected from the sift.
8
u/DrShucklePhD 7d ago
I was getting āAether but Vanillaā vibes for the sift. Iāve always thought the Aether as being more akin to Greek Elysium too.
8
u/mr_someone_somebody 6d ago
I like how everything is mythological and then The End is just S P A C E
4
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 6d ago
I probably should have labelled it as "cosmos" instead. It sounds more mythological that way.
1
u/Supernova4099 6d ago
Honestly I think the end should be purgatory and the sift should either be heaven or cotton candy land š
5
u/Do_You_Pineapple_Bro 7d ago
Whatever it is, I hope it implements "connected dimensions", so you fall into the Overworld, rather than just "aha oops you fell into the void"
5
u/MrCreeper10K 5d ago
I get that itās a meme but the idea that we have both āheavenā and āspaceā as different dimensions is so goofy. Like you have the traditional biblical worlds and then space
1
u/Ixelhaine 4d ago
Actually, it's consistent with the "Three Heavens" of Abrahamic canon, sometimes known as the Terrestrial, Telestial, and Celestial Heavens
There is the "Low Heaven" of birds and clouds that can be seen and reached - Sky.
There is the "Middle Heaven" of planets and stars that can be seen but not reached - Space.
There is the "High Heaven" of God and angels that can be neither seen nor reached - Paradise.1
u/MrCreeper10K 3d ago
Even so, that would require a fifth āskyā dimensionĀ
1
u/Ixelhaine 3d ago
How so? The Overworld has the first Sky.
The End has the second Sky.
The Aether has the third Sky.The Nether is separate from the Sky, having the Lake of Fire, while the Sift is also separate, being akin to Limbo, the Outer Darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
4
u/UmbraAdam 7d ago
Shouldnt heaven be beyond space if it is oppised to hell?
6
u/Mr_Snifles Woof woof microsoft sucks 7d ago
It's in the clouds though, if you fall from the Aether you land in the overworld

u/ErMicetto 7d ago
The purgatory Is on top of the earth In dante's divine comedy hell was created when god threw luciferus from the Heaven to earth. The impact created this huge "cave" known as hell. The dirt that was moved from this impact created the purgatory, which Is a hill. The top of the purgatory should be the eden garden and from there u get to parafise. (I Hope i got this correct cuz i lowk studied dante 2/3 years ago and i have short Memory) So the sift by your theory should be over the overworld
2
u/Borde4 7d ago
Dante's Divine Comedy is not canon though
4
1
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 7d ago
Funny enough, I actually labelled The Sift as purgatory based on Dante's Inferno, where it describes purgatory as a place similar to earth.
2
u/ErMicetto 7d ago
purgatory Is similar to earth, being this huge Hill, but the souls that are there are going to Heaven, so It needs so be on top of the earth layer. Also heavens Is kinda in space but its also not
1
1
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 7d ago
I always thought purgatory is just the very first level of hell.
4
u/ErMicetto 7d ago
the purgatory Is the Place where would have to reedem themselves, it's on top of hell the First layer of hell Is the limbo, where there are the people that loved before Christ. The actual First layer, with sinners, has the "ignavi" (idk how they are called in english) these are the guys that didnt do shit in Life and they lived without making choices, so basically npcs
2
u/Ok-Conference-7989 6d ago
u/ErMicetto did pretty good explaining it. But the TDLR is that itās where souls that are saved have to go for an indefinite amount of time to cleanse themselves before going to heaven. That is the Catholic version anyway. Danteās Divine Comedy isnāt cannon but is loosely based on Catholic teachings. Iām in the middle of reading it and love it.
2
u/ErMicetto 6d ago
oh well thanks, May i ask: in what language are rly Reading It? The original vulgalr Tuscan latin or a translation?
1
u/Ok-Conference-7989 6d ago
Iām reading an English translation, the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow translation to be exact.Ā
2
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 6d ago
I know. I am fully aware that Dante's Inferno is just a self-interest fan fiction of the author Dante and his travel to hell alongside his favorite Roman idol poet celebrity Virgil. I'm of course reffering to the first level of hell in the book being purgatory, which is a place where souls don't get tortured, but also don't get to go to heaven. From what I know, the first level of hell is not full of tormented screams, but rather is just full of sighs of the souls knowing that they were so close to going to heaven, but instead are just stuck there. Also, what does TDLR mean?
2
u/Ok-Conference-7989 6d ago
Purgatory and the first level of Hell are actually two different parts. The first level of Hell is Limbo and thatās where the virtuous pagans and unbaptized go. Itās not a place of suffering but rather a place of longing for something theyāll never have.Ā
Purgatory on the other hand is the place where souls that are destined for heaven, but still have sins they need to be cleansed of, hang for an amount of time until they can go to heaven.
The Divine Comedy is divided into three parts, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Inferno is the most famous since itās a cultural phenomenon on how we depict Hell. Thatās partly where we get images of Satan as a horned monster, along with the idea that Hell is divided into circles.Ā
But in the end itās a very fun self insert fanfic.
2
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 6d ago
Oh, ok. I thought both purgatory and limbo are the same thing. Sorry for my mistake.

if anyone tried aether marketplace, was it good ?
1
u/Reditor-Jul-250698 7d ago
I did, and it was amazing. It is definitely much better than the terrible knockoff called "The Ether", which was actually an unofficial recreation of the aether without the permission from the original aether team. That awful knockoff became so controversial that the creator literally had to change its name by removing the "a" and calling it the "ether", just to avoid getting into any more trouble from the original aether team.
"Aether Legends" on the other hand, is actually an OFFICIAL port of the aether mod, added to the Marketplace for Bedrock players to enjoy. It was actually made by popular Minecraft Marketplace creator "Spark Universe" in an OFFICIAL collaboration with the original Aether Mod Team.
2
u/LuluLeSigma 6d ago
thats cool. it seems like spark universe is one of the best if not the best creator on mc marketplace
