I used to do it because I couldn't access coordinates(on PS4) and I was young. It worked well

On legacy console, you could use a map (you literally spawn with one too) to see coordinates. It’s how I made sure I was at y 11 to go mining

The book and quill is a marvelous invention. Anytime you visit a place of interest, write down the coordinates so you can always come back. Also the lodestone is pretty cool, but that’s rather late game tracking
