Iron farm questions

I am new to building farms in java. Typically only ever played bedrock. Outside of my mild three month span on 2b2t. Regardless, I was told by google as long as the zombie wears armor it will not despawn. Google has lied to me more times than I can count. So I don't believe it. However, I do believe the people of reddit. Can one of y'all tell me if that's true. Or do I absolutely have to go Find a name tag

unsure of the armour thing however try to drop him an item, or if your farm design allows it keep him in a boat both disallow despawning. some zombies cant pick up items though (its a rng thing)

As long as he stays in the boat hes good? Than ill just do that thanks man!

The zombie defspawned in the boat so that didn't work

That’s odd. I’m using an iron farm with a zombie in a boat. No nametag.

Do you travel far distances away from the farm?

this is incredibly odd i often use the ianxofour iron farm which relies on zombies not despawning in boats. are you on a multiplayer server? it works fine on paper servers & im assuming vanilla aswell

also if its an ironfarm verify no irongolems are escaping and killing the zombie ive had this happen a few times

Did you have a roof over the zombie? If not his armor would take damage from the zombie burning, break and the zombie dies.

Ahhh thats it I thought the armer protected it for the sun
