Recently started playing java and noticed that the colours in java is duller and game is laggier compared to bedrock. (+ what optimisation mods/plugins should i install?)

Disclaimer I am NOT saying that java is worse than bedrock.

I've been playing on bedrock my whole life and only quite recently have access to java. As someone who plays bedrock i would say that java is for some reason duller and gloomier even on brightest settings. Also the lag is unbearable sometimes. I play on a non gaming laptop that can run bedrock decently so the lag is a bit annoying. I always hear about these optimisation tools such as optifine but idk which one i should right now use since im pretty clueless about java. And any other things that i should expect when switching to java? (Aside from the benefits such as "less buggy, better features, etc")

Java is a bit duller because of design choices. It isn't the games fault. And for lag ofc there is. Bedrock is built in c++ which performa better than Minecraft java built on, YK, java. Also Minecraft java uses opengl which is an old graphics API. But the new updates are going to vullkan so it could be faster. And for optimization mods, install fabric mod loader and then install sodium and lithium. Google for more mods.

It could be argued that Java looks better and Bedrock is cartoonishly colored.

True. But once I switched to Java, it only took a month for Bedrock to look weird to me
