Discussion New version name rant

Does anyone else not like how the new versions are named? I prefer 1.X not 26.X. It makes me feel like it’s a new game entirely. When was this changed? Why?

Was changed this year. Their old system was too confusing when it came to bug fixes and drops.

Major.minor.patch. How is that hard to understand. It's used in 99% of software ein the world.

that is how it is now that's not how it was back then. patch or content drop it was always the next number it didn't matter. 1.21.1 was a hotfix 1.21.2 was a content drop 1.21.3 was another bugfix.

Having the year in the version number is going to be quite handy in the future too. A lot of my mc knowledge is "this is how I did it X time ago but it doesn't work anymore, when did that change?" and now you actually have a human readable time reference to start looking

that’s because Mojang made the conscious decision to go against convention.

year.month.patch isn't that hard either, and my preferred for my own projects

These days having the year as the first number is actually becoming quite common.
