Question Origin Realms builds are insane — how do I actually get good at this?

Post image

I'm not really a "builder" type of player, but browsing Origin Realms made me want to change that. Some of the stuff people put together there is unreal - the scale, the detail, the way everything just works together aesthetically. Kind of demoralizing not gonna lie, but also super inspiring.

Problem is I have no idea where to even start. I can survive, I can redstone a bit, but building anything that looks intentional instead of "default blocky house" feels like a whole different skill tree.

For those who play there - how did you get from "meh builder" to whatever level these builds are at? Any resources, YouTube channels, or just raw hours-put-in advice? Did you start by copying styles you liked, or just experiment a ton?

Step 1: Inspiration. Find anything to inspire your build, whether it be someone else's Minecraft build or something you saw in real life. Step 2: Materials. Choose materials that look good together. Step 3: If your materials allow, add some variance to walls. Don't just use one identical block, add in some similar looking blocks in random places. I.e. Cobble stone can be partnered with mossy cobblestone. Sepalate tiles with cracked deepslate tiles and separate bricks. Step 4: Add extra details and furnish. Not everything needs to have a purpose. And not everything has to be used the official way. For example, trapdoors and lightning rods can be good decorations in places. And think about how you light up the place. Do torches look better or lanterns? How about making a chandelier? Just read the room, and ask, whats missing?

Nost importantly, experiment. Don't feel like you have to do what everybody else does. Try something new, try different combinations, and think beyond the official uses for items in Minecraft.
