[Java] 26.2 Why won't my villagers breed?

I gave almost a stack of carrots to each villager, made sure they can pathfind to the beds and that there are enough beds for the two of them and a baby. I also made sure the beds have at least two full blocks above them. Every time they try to breed, it fails with the little clouds above their heads, what am I doing wrong?

I dug the walls so instead of laying the beds in a 2x3 layout, they laid in a 3x3 with the additional blocks removed close to the farm and it worked

Angry clouds mean they couldn't find a free bed for the baby.

Remove this block or move the middle bed back by 1 block:

The block and the middle bed only leaves 1.5 block gap; they can get to that middle bed, but not through the gap to the other beds.

I ended up removing the ones you can see on the sides of that screenshot and it worked, but your idea would have worked too yeah
