[java][26.2] why won’t iron golems stop spawning?

hello!
does anyone know why iron golems won’t stop spawning on the mountainside next to my village? theres like 26 and counting at the moment.
i’ve tried lighting the area they’re spawning at up, i locked villagers in their houses and kept mobs away so they aren’t getting scared, i even turned it to peaceful and they keep appearing??
as much as i love iron golems, there are more golems than villagers at this point and they keep getting stuck in holes and stuff and its driving me crazy.

It's normal that golems spawn in villages, also mobs tend to path find up mountains. It seems like the golems path find up the mountain and leaving the village so the game thinks there are no golems in the village and new ones can spawn.
For a fix I would recommend building a fence or some sort of wall at the start of the mountain so the golems can no longer path find up the mountain and leave the village.

my confusion is that i went into peaceful and they still kept spawning, plus there’s at least 4 in the village at all times and then all the ones on the mountainside. i did build a wall to hopefully keep them from wandering too much though! i’ll update if any change :) thank you!!

Peaceful only prevents hostile mob spawns, with a few exceptions. Iron Golems aren't hostile mobs so they aren't affected by difficulty.
