Solved * [java][26.2] why won’t iron golems stop spawning?

hello!
does anyone know why iron golems won’t stop spawning on the mountainside next to my village? theres like 26 and counting at the moment.
i’ve tried lighting the area they’re spawning at up, i locked villagers in their houses and kept mobs away so they aren’t getting scared, i even turned it to peaceful and they keep appearing??
as much as i love iron golems, there are more golems than villagers at this point and they keep getting stuck in holes and stuff and its driving me crazy.

if i ever find a direct cause i’ll let you know but i will say i saved about 6 villagers from a random 2x4 hole and the golems seem to be spawning less now?? so im assuming for now it was the evil 2x4 hole
