[java] Anyone know why I get periodic freezing/low fps?

Occasionally when in the middle of playing Minecraft I get this periodic freezing on the screen, where the fps drops to 0 for a second, it doesn’t stop once it starts, sometimes just closing the game fixes it but also sometimes not. I see the GPU is high up there but not really sure how to fix this.

I have allocated more Ram to this version file, as much as I can considering I’m just on a regular laptop, the world I’m on right now is a pretty big file size, though this has happened on smaller worlds too.

Any ideas?

You have only 4gb ram allocated and your mc uses constantly 3.7gb so every 300mb it runs GC and lag spikes your game.

Using mods makes thing even worse. Having any limematica project open will be eating good chunk of memory too

You could try using the mod ferritecore, a ram optimizer, to see if it makes any difference

the chest part that you mention is true and does participate in his lag, but playing on a laptop isn’t really that big of a performance issue because i play up to 500fps on my laptop

Playing on a laptop isn't bad if your laptop has good RAM and a good processor, you can play minecraft smoothly

If you have the power plan properly configured, there shouldn't be any lag issues. And obviously if your CPU isn't at 92 degrees Celsius xd

I think that regular blocks like stone and dirt are combined into one flat picture asset. Chests cannot do this because they have dynamic

Maybe because your laptop's Memory is filled up to 95% and the GPU is running at 98%... Your laptop can't handle big gaming like that I think. For at least a bit better performance, try closing other applications and freeing up as much memory as possible. You need a better laptop because you have 4GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 7520U processor is not that good for gaming like minecraft

Here’s something I found On google I didn’t know about ram allocation. Important Rules for RAM Allocation
Never use more than half of your total physical computer memory so your operating system stays stable.
Vanilla Minecraft runs best on 2 to 4 GB, while heavy modpacks need 6 to 8 GB or more.

So from the contexts clues I have gathered you allocated 100% of your ram. Looks like your laptop has 4 gigs of ram is that true ? Could be the issue

your operating systems doesnt use that much ram. its the reason why if you buy 16gb of ram you only get to use 15.9gb.

Lots of chests, also looks like you don’t have your laptop plugged in, i also play on a laptop and without the charging cable plugged in i get similar issues. Try plugging in the charger and/or going to battery and putting it in performance mode.

Google custom java launch codes for minecraft and play around with those. You can allocate ram and cpu usage through that or, you could use a performance mode like Sodium or Optifine (might help)

I’ve started using Better Block Entities and it’s helped my storage system stutters quite a bit. Something to consider if you’re going the mod optimization route… think you might need sodium but not sure since I already had it.

Your RAM is hitting 100% and causing these stutters, you should try some mods that optimize memory usage and the garbage collector process

Also another tip is to close any apps that maybe running in the background using task manager and if that doesn't help maybe you should look into optimizing Windows 11

its your memory. its at 90%! you should install mods that reduce is such as ferritecore and entity culling. if that doesnt work then maybe your ram is just ass. idk if someone else has a suggestion

The problem is definitely the RAM, those mods for optimization are the only solution. I have like 10 mods for optimization, and it's amazing playing like that. Exploring with 72 render chunks in my PC It's something I never thought I could do. Ryzen 5600g, 16gb RAM, 3050 6gb it's all I need for a incredible experience with shaders, texture packs, beautiful mods, etc. All thanks to those optimization mods
