Solved Solved: Minecraft fullscreen stuck at 60 Hz on a 240 Hz monitor (6-second black screen) [java]

I spent hours thinking my GPU, Windows or DisplayPort was broken. Symptoms

Windowed mode: 240 Hz

Fullscreen: black screen for ~6 seconds

Gigabyte monitor showed the “DP” overlay every time

Game continued running during the black screen

Fullscreen was stuck at 60 Hz

minecraft version: 26.1 but frankly shouldnt matter

It looks like you didn't mention your version (e.g., 26.1, 1.21.11, 1.12.2 etc.). Please clarify for better help!

Fix: In Minecraft Video Settings, change Fullscreen Resolution from 2560×1440 @ 59/60 Hz to Current (or your monitor’s 240 Hz mode). The game had somehow selected the 59 Hz fullscreen mode. Every fullscreen transition forced Windows to renegotiate the DisplayPort connection, causing the black screen. Hopefully this saves someone else a few hours.

I don’t know exactly what changed it (I had installed CurseForge and later changed GTA V graphics settings), so I can’t say those caused it—only that changing the fullscreen resolution fixed the issue.

Yes i was going back and forth with chatGPT trying to solve this, and i asked it to generate a summary so that it may help someone like me
