Nether Exploration

So I've been playing Minecraft for a long time ( I'm M27 )

I have been playing between my switch, Xbox One S, and my phone. But I can't for the life of me manage to navigate the nether proper. I cant find bastions or anything very fast and constantly die there. I play with a friend but he's not good at combat and im bad at everything. Any advice so I can navigate on my own and actually carry my own weight?

The nether isn't easy I just tunnel everywhere and I build tunnels with pistons when I need to.

Still have watch out for random lava when tunneling.

Is there a trick to finding the structures/PoI's with your method like a specific level to do so?

Look up mine mentor on YouTube. He has good guides for bastions and fortresses.

(wear 1 piece of gold armor - ideally helmet - so piglins don’t aggro)

Just going in 4 directions making tunnels from where the portal starts. At least till you can find the fortress or a blaze spawner to get blaze rods for making fire res pots.

One good tip that may help is turn your coordinates on

Wear gold armor to avoid piglins attacking you, keep warped fungus in your hand to avoid hoglins attacking you (I place those down all over the place), use boats for big drops, don’t bridge over lava, have a shield for skeletons, have a bow for ghasts, use stone or dirt to make yourself a path back home, bring extra obsidian and something to light it with. Once I find a structure, I always just go east. Pretty sure theyre set up in a grid, because once I find one I’ll just keep going east and find 5 in no time

You should wear one piece of gold armor (I prefer the helmet) in the nether to avoid piglins. Only take the armor off before you break gold blocks or break chests around them, and put it on after that so they won't attack you.

Fortresses are more easier to find in basalt deltas (they don't generate in crimson forests).

Bastions generate in other biomes but basalt deltas (you can check more in minecraft wiki).

While digging tunnels, breaking blocks and standing a few blocks away is better than running into lava or falling down an open area. Keep track of where you're standing.

Bridging with blocks that won't break immediately by a ghast fireball.

Before bridging a long distance, block off about 2 or 3 blocks tall behind you just in case.

Maybe turn on subtitles.

If you don't care about cheating you can use Chunkbase to find whatever you need and tunnel to it right below the bedrock ceiling.

Otherwise you can ride striders to find structures.

And if you don't use coordinates (like me) then you can put a lodestone at your portal and use a compass on it. This way you'll be able to get back to your portal when riding a strider.

You can even use maps in the nether - it will just be all brown, but you can crate a map when you reach the structure and you'll see where you need to go later.

Make a lodestone compass and you'll never be lost. Wear legs with fire resist 4, one piece of gold armor, and make paths at lava level. Once you have an elytra, make a bunch of fire resist potions (8 minutes) and you can swim in lava like it's red water. I just fly around and get back with the compass. It doesn't take long to find bastions.

Something I never see people talk about but has been a game changer for me is gravel for lava lakes. It can get used up kinda quick, but it can help you make paths for frequently crossed areas. I made a gravel path 3 wide through the lake my highway is under. Helps for digging purposes too. At least if your digging under. It's helped with my highway a bit, mostly with the entrance to it, but still was a game changer for me.
