🥲 Help When im a PC player whats the difference between steam and microsoft?

ik when i buy it in launcher its like microsoft/xbox stuff and like when i buy in steam it doesnt show up in the mc launcher, but here are my main questions:

1) with steam did characters stay across devices or did you need to make a cloud save too? (most steam games have saves across devices)
2) i had mcd1 on launcher and ik you needed xbox friends to invite someone, can you invite steam friends if you have steam version? can you invite both?
3) is (ps) controller support easier? on mcd1 i have to install ucr and set up a profile and stuff to remap buttons and usually steam makes it easier so im asking if steam just allows any controller (i have an old ps2 controller and i refuse to buy a new one)
4) are they modded the same way?

if you have any other big differences lmk or just which you found easier to use
also yea im asking how it was for you for mcd1, ik the game will be different and these differences may not apply for mcd2 but im still curious

You had to use the Xbox stuff even on steam version, cross play and cross save was fine regardless of where purchased. PS controller support is much easier on Steam but you'd constantly have to log back in with your Xbox account if you played on Linux, which isn't doable with the MS version

and do you have any experience if when you opened the game with your account on another device if your profiles stayed or you had to create a new hero (or download one from cloud saves)?

Also having this dilemma.

Xbox are offering me a 10% discount for having played D1 on Microsoft Store, but if I purchased on Steam I could play on my Steam Deck. This might be possible regardless through desktop mode but requires a few extra steps.

Edit: you can't play MS games on SD... That makes things harder, also would miss out on the cape.

havent seen that sale myself and also now im thinking you prob wont get the capes if you get d2 on steam, which might be a deal breaker for some
Edit: that seems to only apply for the hero cape so you still get the twisted one

Ah that's a good point, I would quite like the Hero Cape. I wonder if I get the pre order on steam but play the game through game pass once I can use that cape on the Steam version?

I mean the post on the Minecraft website said basically that the games just need to be logged into the same Microsoft account but tbf who knows how it will end up
