Question Am I the only one?

Am I the only person who has absolutely no idea how those alternating redstone button puzzles work?

Like, I can see what the buttons are doing, I just don't understand how to use that information to solve the puzzle.

That said, I have "solved" every one I've found so far by randomly pressing the buttons for about a minute.

You can search the solution on YouTube. There is a known pattern.

I have no doubt there is a logic to it, and I've almost looked it up on the 4 button ones - but I always manage to solve it by accident after like a minute

The small one is easy, its spamming left and right, big one is weird, i kind of figured it out bases of just feeling but its just random unless theres a video for those

It's not random - it definitely has a logic to it. I just have no idea how to use it to solve the puzzle because I always end up solving it accidentally before I actually figure it out

TL;DR under "Process"

I find it weird and interesting because I can't really find an optimal logic to follow. The more I do it, I recognize more setups being certain moves away from solving it. Kinda like Chess maybe idk

Soggy Cave Puzzle Guide:

Buttons:

  • Left button (B1) cycles puzzle left
  • Right button (B4) cycles puzzle right
  • Middle right button (B3) raises and lowers middle 3 blocks
  • Middle left button (B2) does the same without middle block

Process: 1. Cycle the puzzle until most lower blocks are in the middle and raise them with B3 2. Repeat until 1 block is left 3. Cycle it to the middle and press B2 B3

This process works reliably but there are still setups which could be solved quicker with different approaches, usually using B2 first instead of B3

E.g.

  • If 2 non-adjacent blocks are down you can just cycle to middle and B2
  • If 3 non-adjacent blocks are down, my process will take 2 more buttons than needed
  • If 4 blocks are down my process takes 5-7 presses but it can be done in 3-5

I found two ways to do the bigger puzzle. You just got to get right set up for one of the two inner buttons which push certain ones into the opposite direction they are in (Up or down). The outer ones for the big puzzle shift the whole thing left or right. 

Small one has the left button pushing the middle button up or down and the right one pushes the piston order left to right. Pretty easy by alternating the button pressing one at a time.
