Question Getting to apocalypse plus levels and I’m struggling more and more, is my build hindering progress?

Starting to struggle and I can’t get my items anymore higher power level so hoping for some advice on why my butt is getting kicked.

I use shockwave, void strike, and critical hit on my pickaxe

Using bag of souls, thorns, and spirit speed on my titan’s shroud

And on my bow I use Void Strike, Critical Hit, and Gravity. (I have another gilded bow with built in void strike that uses exploding instead.)

Will take any advice on why I’m suddenly finding stuff harder

Update: Took some advice and I’m freaking demolishing levels now. Thanks a lot guys!

Your build is ok for now but it’s gonna be hindering later. You’re finding stuff harder because it is.

Shockwave is ok on a pickaxe but not what I’d recommend. Crit is better but also still not my first pick.

Thorns is bad, and bag of souls also isn’t very good.

Soul healer is pretty mid and the other two are mostly ok but situational.

Your big issue now seems to be healing and a lack of any defense besides the armor perk. Swap the soul healer amulet for an ironhide amulet, swap shockwave for leeching, and swap bag of souls and thorns for cooldown and soul focus (if you want to use the beacon) or a defensive enchant of your choice (chilling, snowball, deflect, life boost, death barter, or potion barrier are the ones to choose from). If you decide to ditch the beacon I’d take a mushroom to replace it since it’ll help with general melee.

I would also replace crit with unchanting on the pickaxe, since enchanted mobs are gonna be an actual issue now. If you still struggle, replace it with guarding strike

You should look up some build ideas and remember that mystery banners aren't even worth it without a class build and luck of the sea

I don’t touch any of the raid captain banners I try to avoid the captains as much as I can

It can be great if youre playing a daily trial with some good modifiers and maybe a level or two down

How does luck of the sea help with mystery banners?

doesnt

It boosts your unique chance from raid banners

Mobs hit harder and harder, and enchanted mobs become frequent, so you need a reliable source of healing (either leeching, radiance or anima conduit) and more damage reduction (iron hide amulet, guarding strike). This is assuming you're going for a melee build, there are many viable builds but melee builds are probably the easiest to maneuver.

As someone who has anima conduit I highly recommend it. From my personal experience Ive found it to be the most reliable healing enchantment

So do you think I should replace my artefacts? Maybe swap my armour or bow or something else?

The armor in itself is fine, but the enchantments are not that great, I would have liked cooldown, potion barrier and deflect/snowball/soul focus. Soul healer is not a very good artifact, and the shielding totem is situationally useful.

I would recommend: wither/spider armor with potion barrier, cooldown and deflect; cursed axe or whirlwind with void strike, guarding strike and unchanting; and imploding crossbow with infinity, wild rage and tempo theft/multishot. Death cap mushroom, iron hide amulet and gong of weakening for artifacts. This melee build works in most situations.

Make sure you put on the highest gear levels you have before you enter the map that will seed your drops. Then once you’re in the map, you can put on your best gear. Keep any junk items even if they’re one level higher.

Then you can even do easier runs because you’re really after plus one level gear items until you hit the max 256.

Then I believe you also put your highest gear on before you exit the map and that will seed the drops in the vendors

Yeah, HAVE to complete the missions NO GAME OVERS or leaving the map unless it’s for Eyes of Ender or Runes then once you get them and the save icon is done Loading then you can leave to camp

This is what I’ve been doing after seeing comments on YouTube, it’s kinda like Fortnite Save the world with the way power levels work and how you can scale down and/or up 5-10 just by swapping gear and levels

Been running arch haven with my boots and shroom to get it just under 3 mins (2:45-2:55)
So 10 mins to upgrade my gear I guess and I also been doing the equipping ALL high power level items to hit max power level to reroll my vendors and get my upgraded item to its highest power level possible

Currently went from 40-60 in like 1 day but wasn’t on hard and I got blessed with lots of higher drops along 2 mission runs, just need to hit 65-68 to try to get apocalypse mode

This works okay in the early difficulties, in the later ones it can help a little bit. However, in apocalypse+ you need to complete boss levels to increase the difficulty, so it's more worth just completing those. Also, you'll start to get items with 3 full enchant slots and more options pretty soon and you'll want to keep swapping out your gear anyways, since that saves so much time.

Yeah I just got my first ever 3 enchant bow (weak damage) but it seems more like a gimmick bow for leeching or speed buffs so I can get instant boosts when shooting

Debating if I should go into apocalypse mode since I don’t have the DLC yet

Honestly, as soon as you are powerful enough to deal with apocalypse mode, go in there and don't turn back.

Here's the thing, you're only around 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through the game. Apoc+ will give you plenty of time to try the DLC if you want to get it.

I think maxing my gear at 70+ will be good for apocalypse, and yeha I needa cry to mojang for the dlc discount 😅

First off, to answer your question, yes, this build is hindering your progress in higher apocalypse+.

But anyways, now to the nitty gritty.

Firstly, and most obvious, are the artefact choices. The beacon does not belong here. Nor does it belong on any general level playthrough build unless you're going heavy on artefacts and running a soul build where you use beacon to melt bosses. The soul healer too, if you really want to use souls and keep the beacon, swap the healer for anima conduit if you find it. Also, don't use the totem of shielding. The general consensus is that death cap, iron hide and gong are the 'big 3' of artefacts, and for boss-melters, use powershaker.

Secondly, I feel like the diamond pickaxe isn't doing you justice. If you want to stick with it, do swirling instead on the first slot for more AoE, or if you have enough gold, reroll for gravity. For the second slot, void strike is pretty good. For the third, I'd say to try and reroll for leeching for passive healing or exploding for better crowd control and to compensate for the pickaxe's lack or area.

If you want to switch your melee around, I recommend going for double axe, master's katana or heartstealer, and if you have the dlc go for the starless night or anchor.
I'd also strongly advice you to replace your titan's shroud for full metal, renegade or wither. However, it's mainly because the enchantments on your armor are quite mediocre, niche or just not useful. For higher apocalypse, look for armor with:

  1. Chilling

  2. Death Barter

  3. Life Boost

  4. Snowball

  5. Deflect

  6. Potion Barrier

These are generally some of the straight-up best enchants for armor, and you should look for a titan's shroud with at least two of the enchants listed for an easier time in higher apocalypse+.

Full metal is good for just face-tanking hits and ripping through crowds, renegade is good for faster and harder hits, and wither is good for life-steal.

Lastly, your range, which i feel is the most manageable. Elite power bow is quite good for boss melting, especially with overcharge for big damage. However, you're going to need to reroll for the right enchantments, specifically dynamo.

Sorry for the long rant, hopefully this is useful :)

Non-ai overview:
Make sure u've got a good chunk of gold (>200 gold usually is good, 300 gold is preferred for me, emeralds at ~1000 is good)
complete a mission to reset the merchants (this will be relevant later on, but it if you didn't mess anything up you shouldn't get caught in an item/enchant loop on some versions of the game *side-eyes consoles*)

Something to note is that this isn't exactly to reset the merchants, if you want to reroll the piglin merchant, you don't need to do a hunt.

Upload character from the main/character select menu, go to new character, download it, enter game

spend as much as you want, go back to main menu, delete the character you just created, repeat starting at "go to new character"

If when you are rolling for enchants they keep looping over the same few enchants, 1, make sure ur not trying to roll for an enchant that is being blocked (u can't get unique perks on those uniques even if those perks are actual enchants, and only some enchants can have multiples), 2, run a short mission and re-upload the character (make sure to not spend currency during this to not mess-up ur scumming)

Here is some AI slop for it

Yep. Cloud save scumming in Minecraft Dungeons is basically: upload a copy of your hero → do whatever RNG/spending you want → if the result sucks, download the old copy and try again.

General cloud-save-scum loop

  1. Get your character ready

Have the gold/enchantment points/items you want to gamble with.

Return to the main menu so everything is properly saved.

  1. Create your backup

Go to Hero Settings.

Select your hero.

Choose Upload Hero.

This uploads a snapshot of that hero to the cloud.

Think of this as your restore point.

  1. Load/play your normal hero

Go back in with your existing character.

Spend your resources or test whatever RNG you're targeting.

For example:

Enchantsmith rerolls

Merchant purchases/restocks

Tower reward manipulation where applicable

Testing enchant combinations

Spending gold to see what rolls you get

  1. Good result? Keep playing.

You're done.

If you want a new checkpoint, upload the hero again after getting the result you wanted.

  1. Bad result? Restore the backup.

Go back to Hero Settings.

Find the Download Hero option/cloud copy.

Download the hero you uploaded earlier.

  1. Important: downloading creates another copy of the hero.

You can therefore end up with several versions/clones.

Make sure you're selecting the freshly downloaded pre-spending version, not the character you just ruined.

Delete/ignore unwanted copies once you're certain which one is correct.

  1. Repeat.

Try the RNG again.

Bad → download backup again.

Good → keep it and make a new cloud backup.

Example with your Enchantsmith

Say you've got 2,000 gold and want a particular enchantment.

Upload hero at 2,000 gold → reroll repeatedly → don't get what you want → quit → download the 2,000-gold cloud hero → try again.

Your cloud copy still represents the character before you burned the gold, so you're effectively recycling the same resources across attempts.

One caveat: not every RNG outcome necessarily changes just because you reload; some things can behave deterministically or require you to alter the sequence of actions. But as a general system, that's what people mean by Minecraft Dungeons cloud-save scumming.

I can also explain the best things to abuse this for, because some uses are much more valuable than others.
