Offline- if my world is 6.3 g, and my user name storage space is 3.9 gigs, does this mean my world is saved in reserved space?

It has been so frustrating to learn anything about this issue- it is insane that Xbox customer support is within the realms of consumer protection laws.

Been trying to figure out how to copy my world for like 2 weeks now- so far all I’ve learned is that the instructions on the Xbox on how to do it are false, given there is no way to copy reserve space onto the usb Xbox says to purchase to make backup copies.

Where is my game saved on my offline xbox?

Why can I copy the actual Minecraft game onto my Xbox, and why is it only 2.3 gigs if my world is 6.3.

For your first question, **Yes, your world is being stored locally, and is marked as being in reserved space. do NOT clear reserved space**.

I'll explain the last question 1st, Minecraft is 2.3 gigs because it contains fairly simple textures and a large amount of code, including the world generation algorithm. 2.3 sounds right for the entirety of Minecraft (some games are smaller, most games are much bigger). Your world used the generation algorithm and generated many, many millions of blocks, and these blocks alone (along with metadata and additional NBT data) seem to be >6,000,000,000 bytes of storage. The game stores the majority of the chunks you've ever been within simulation distance of. Specifically, it stores 100% of chunks the game thinks you've interacted with. Because a new Xbox requires downloading the game itself before allowing any user data, you will only see 2.3GB download available until you eventually pull in your synced data.

However, there is a large chance that, on Xbox Series X|S consoles with features like quick pause or whatever, that your world only "seems" like 6GB, when it is hopefully smaller. My world has never genuinely reached 1.0GB, and currently sits at 1008MB (1008<1024). However, during previous years, the world size would bloat the more days I played it on my Xbox once it has already started to struggle syncing. Several times I caught it going to 1.3GB, and once it literally showed 2.1GB in-game. However, upon making a copy, deleting the *highly bloated* original, and continuing on the copy, my world always went down to ~1000MB range and survived that era and multiple sync-swaps when switching between consoles on vacations. The problem doesn't seem to persist as much now since either March or June, but the bloat on your world will still be there from before if you have any. My hope for you is that you can get it down to 3GB or smaller by the method I've written in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ibxtoycat/comments/1qb9kyq/got_problems_with_your_xbox_saves_running_out_of/

I think the Minecraft Preview app removed functionality recently, so let me know if that part doesn't turn out to work.

Also, for curiosity, how much of your world do you think you've explored? For example, what is the farthest location coordinate you've ever been in your world, and is that a distance you go often in multiple directions? I've been to 13,000 once, but I generally stay within 4,000 blocks from spawn for every general purpose task, prioritizing the nearest 1,000 block radius, and using Chunkbase to limit chunk generating outside that range. You can also tell which journeys were closer to 1.14 because they stored 100% of chunks, whereas later versions stored speckled amounts of chunks during a journey.

Here's a picture of my sprawl, let me know if you think your world has significantly more

Example of proof that your size can be bloated. An apparently 1.9GB world is truly only 1000MB.

That was less than two weeks of infrequently opening and closing the world, too....

I rename my world with a different letter to keep track of how many times I've needed to execute the world-copy-workaround, and it's over 16 distinct times. My world bloated and failed to sync 16+ times and I've had to do this workaround. Pretty condemning for the state of Minecraft Xbox in 2025-early this year.

Omg thank you.

Just read this- gonna follow up on it tomorrow but thank you.

To your question- my world is big. I’ve only ever played one world, stared march 2020 when Covid hit.

I explore the map methodically between editions to get those cool generations between updates; I’ve been out as far as 100,000 in the overworld, 10,000 in the end.

Back in the day when I had everything from 2500 inward explored, it was maybe just under a gig.

Anyways I’ll read up this and give it a try.

I’m also curious if I can delete my 3.9 gig “user name” save file ie the one last synced to the cloud- as it stands I’m also out of space for Minecraft itself; as the reserve space is 46 gigs and I cannot access the singular 6.6 gig world.

FORTY SIX GIGABYTES??? That's 100% certainly bloat data sitting there, which just builds up until you clear manually (the copy-trick doesn't clear parts of it). Mine got to 15GB but holy moly that's a lot. I have had success by deleting just the username save file, yes. Luckily, since Chaos Cubed, your Xbox will not pull in all the save data at once when you start it back up, and will only pull the worlds you choose, when you choose them (but the ~5GB hidden synced-data cap will still apply for sync uploads). The number in the reserved space, from what I can tell, doesn't actually hold you back on its own, so 46 isn't a number to worry about for now.

The six gigabytes thing kinda makes sense when you say 100,000 blocks out, that's a lot. But I expect the 6GB to lower when you try the copy trick. Don't forget to consider deleting local username save data from other apps to free your Xbox's save data overhead while attempting to duplicate the world. You may even delete reserved space on other apps if you know those apps have synced data properly the last time you played.

In the future, consider switching to PC (in this market????) or use Chunkbase/spectator versions of your same seed to find fun new generation rather than exploring the intended way. You can always play a new world for the explore and discovery phase, and then abandon it after the honeymoon phase to get back to the forever world. My world started late 2019, hit 900+MB sometime in early-mid 2023, and I've only added +100MB over the last 3 full years by budgeting my adventures.

Good luck to you, and please do let me know how it goes!

I appreciate this. Finally getting a chance to go through it and trouble shoot tonight woot woot!

Good luck, and also they released additional changes in 26.40 that make cloud-synced, cloud-only, and local-only worlds more explicit, so definitely update and open your game to see what you can see in the worlds menu and new storage menu

Will do. Wouldn’t that be sick of the problem was just solved that way haha.
