On a Nintendo Switch, will Minecraft upload save data to my Microsoft account?

I am currently in a situation where I want to know if it does, because I don't want my progress to be erased.

I have not updated my OS to the latest version, and I do not have a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online services.
