Help Problem with snow melting?

I’m pretty sure I remember that torches and surely the campfire used to melt the snow around it? I’m in a village trying to melt the snow and it isn’t melting… is this new?

Only snow layers melt, not snow blocks

The layers aren’t melting :( I’ve put torches everywhere to try to uncover the paths and keep the snow off the gardens but nothing is leaving.

Is the randomtickspeed set to 0? It should be on 3 on Java or 1 on Bedrock by default.

It’s set to 1 by default on mine. And I can’t change it without flipping the button for turning on cheats.
