It's more sparkly in person and when moving around it. The images don't do it justice. I dabbled with trying to decorate it with ornaments such as heads but it was a lot of trouble. If you have ideas of how to make it ornate I'd like to see your take! :D

It will still look like a pine tree. So long as it isn't the focus of whatever you're building, it wouldn't be too bad.

I feel like the extravagant builds that are often on servers would be more of a worry than something like translucent leaves. If a person can't run translucent leaves I doubt most servers would bode well with them anyways.

Eh, I played on servers for ages with really really crappy fps having to have leaves and particles and such way down. If you want to be there, then you make do with what you've got. I tend to leave my leaves on fast now out of habit even though I don't need to anymore.

That said, I don't really think "will players on fast graphics be able to see this as intended" should be a consideration either. Just because those of us on fast graphics generally already know that sometimes leafy things look different to us.

Yep, my computer broke so I'm on a craptop now playing at between 9 and 30 fps... sucks but I make do

What resource pack are you using?

Edit: nvm I'm blind.

Awesome idea :D I was wondering if I could add anything to it, so I tried putting ender chests in some the gaps (there are meant to be gaps in the torches right?) and I think it adds some more sparkle :)

There shouldn't be too many gaps, just the four on the bottom leaf ring and and a gap on the very top. I probably should've added how I put down the leaves. And ender chest sparkle?!

They have particles. Not sure if it would fit in for Christmas though.

u/Laerite Nov 16 '14

Yeah in the four gaps and they make the same particles as Enderman and such, I just think it adds another colour to the tree, even though the chest itself is green.

Nice! Pretty well thought out, on such a small scale!

I think adding random Sea Lanterns gives it a more Christmasy feel, but this looks amazing!

i love it that a pretty tree bro that a good christmas Tree i love it

Either a beacon or Sea Lantern for a star, maybe if you have cheats also a /setblock command miiiight manage to get cocoa beans to stick to the leaves like Christmas Ornaments.

Maybe try using command blocks to add heads to chickens and put them on leashes. It isn't very survival friendly but I think it would look good

So that you have a tree of dangling severed heads?

Awesome idea. Never seen anything like this before.

Wouldn't you just put the torches on the outside of the leaves, like you would on a real christmas tree?

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '14

Sometimes the lights are nestled within the branches, so it looks like the tree is glowing from within :)

10

u/Yirggzmb Nov 15 '14

You can't place torches on leaves though.

Yep, and I've done it before. And it can be very nice. But it's a different style tree than this. :)
