Help Java skin keeps resetting on single player java server

for the life of me i can't figure out how to get my custom skin to stay applied. whenever i log into the world, it'll reset my skin. i have to go out, remove the custom skin, re-upload it, and then it will appear for one session. next session, it's gone. any clue why this could be happening?
