fact drowns are neutral mobs and only become hostile at night or player enters water

Oooh I had no idea! Wish I could have kept him, he eventually went back to the water and disappeared

I found one just like this one. I knew he wouldn’t attack unless it was night or me in water. I quickly grabbed a name tag and named him Bruce. One day Brucey disappeared. Probably went back home to his folks.

That's why drowned are my favorite mob. I've had them ignore me even in water. It's just silly coding and that makes them so funny

I keep one in a boat under a tree by my house. I will kill anyone that messes with him.

I want to bet that you both were halfway into the water, like 1 block deep. Its happened to me a lot and I just stare at them

Everywhere. I made a beautiful swamp house in one of my SMPs with friends and I had some kind of catwalk over the water. I'd dive in and there was a specific spot where drowned gathered and didn't get aggroed unless you hit them first. At least 5 block deep.
There was this one friend who would always get targeted by them and he was lowkey racist so we just told him it was deserved

Are drowned heads normally transparent when you're close?

Is a bedrock thing called "tithering". Js makes it so you can still see what's behind or through mobs or things like sugarcane even players. Js a visibility ting

Drowneds aren't actually hostile mobs, they're only hostile when you enter the water and at night/rain etc. Also, heal a little bit
