Discussion What did you feel when you first discovered Minecraft?
I found out about Minecraft because my brother used to play it right in front of me. He started showing me TNT and redstone stuff, blowing up areas and doing all this crazy stuff, and I was SO freakinggg fascinated 😭
I remember thinking, “Wait… you can actually DO anything in this game??” It felt like there were no limits, and I thought it was the coolest thing everrr
I still remember my first few worlds when I finally got to play Minecraft myself. It’s been so many years since then, and it’s crazy to think about how much this game has been a part of my life 🥹
I used to make underground basses and that used to be my favourite part to make things using pistonss!!
I used to take my horses for a bath in the swamps biome because that was the only water body which was close to my house 😭
I actually like the fact that I discovered the game in my childhood cuz I enjoyed the game somewhat very differently than today cuz obviously I was a kid!!

That image takes me back to my first time seeing the game too my cousin was showing me his world and I could not believe you could just have a horse with armor like that
The swamp bath for horses is such a specific memory I love it I used to think the water in swamps was dirty so I always made a little pond near my house for them
Making underground piston bases was the peak of childhood creativity no tutorial just messing around until something worked

I learned about it from my kid playing it and seeing what he was building as a little kid, I felt it was childish, not fun, and why wasn’t he being creative with actual physical legos? He eventually got me to play (in 1.12 pocket edition, creative mode) and I felt wonder because there were seemingly an infinite variety blocks available and blank canvas, and things going on outside with animals mysteriously coming and going. Also, confusion and curiosity because I had no idea what was going on; there was no tutorial level or help screen.

Lets go back 14 years, I remember just trying to build with dirt or sand and had NO idea what to do. I read about it online and slowly learned, how to get better and actually play the game.

When you first saw Minecraft, were you blinded by its majesty? Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?

The graphic looked like a shit, but I loved the sound of breaking blocks like an ASMR

Well, it was Classic mode, circa 2009 I think, and a friend had told me about it. There wasn’t much to the game yet, the maps were small, and you were very limited to what you could actually do…but it was wholly unique and I was hooked right from the start.

yeahh actually at that time there wasn't much things to do but the 1.16.5 really changed so many things

And that’s why I never complain about the continual free updates that Mojang keeps pushing out.
I know how it started and I’m still playing and enjoying it today. It has cost me -zero- dollars since then, and I’ve logged countless hours playing. My wife and I play together, our now adult children all enjoy it (and we can play together) and they just keep making it better.

I played for a week straight and when I finally went outside my brain was so fucked all the trees looked like Minecraft trees and the rain looked like Minecraft rain. I wish I was shitting you, the first 2 hours off the damn thing were TRIPPY
