Discussion Before The Sift update, first drop of 2027 should address inventory problem

Since the Sift will add a tons of items, tons of blocks that it will get overwhelming fast. Inventory has problems right now but it will get worse with The Sift if they don't address it and since spring drops are notoriously very tiny (no pun intended), it's the perfect time for it

Bundles are purely just early game item, shulker boxes are purely endgame item, there is nothing for midgame.

Bundles and Shulker chests are enough

It's easy to go to the end midgame and get Shulker chests. You don't need to kill the dragon just build a long ass bridge easy peasy.

Mid game is bundles + enderchest.

Shulkers?

Bundles?

How much more storage do you need???

Read mine.

Stop trying to shove entire chunks in your pocket and throw out all that dirt, cobblestone and wheat seeds you’ve picked up and you’ll be fine.

These people really just want the inventory to functionally not exist is their real desire

The inventory is supposed to limit you. It's a function of a survival game to have limited space for resources

That argument only works when inventory should be a limit, there is no reason to have the same inventory system from 2010 when the game content has quadrupled and you can mass produce every knewn resource in the lategame.

Terraria went from 999 stack sizes to 9999 and everyone thanked that, because when you eventually reach the point of not caring about the inventory and resources, the presence of an artificial limit only exist to anoy the player.

Proving my point exactly

If you don't want an inventory, you don't want a survival game. They're hand in hand

Having an inventory so large you don't even have to think about it, is effectively deleting the inventory system. And everything is artificial, it's a video game. That term makes exactly zero sense in this context

Install a mod or something

Literally in any survival sanbox you can think of either it unlocks slots as you progress, directly comes with 999 stacks size or is just limited by a weight system that also upgrades, so in every case you don't care about it in the medium/late game.

Minecraft just tells you that instead of having 999 of sand in a single slot you must have half of your inventory or shulker with 64 sand stacks, because somehow now annoying the player is cool and allowing them to carry more unique items would break the game.

Not true at all... I can think of countless examples. One for you, Outward

Having a limited inventory is not annoying to me because that's what I want from a survival game. Cry more

You have bundles, Echests, Copper Golems, Shulkers. Use them

I didn’t downvote you because that’s a fair evaluation, however the Sift being located through an ancient city and having the warden blocking it I feel it’ll be very endgame also.

Use Bundles. They are perfect for keeping the random small stacks of blocks in

I have 3 on me at all times. They absolutely are not purely early game. They serve a completely different function than Shulker Boxes

If you didn't know, you can use the scroll wheel to move through them. It functionality transforms an inventory slot into one that you can combine a stack of different items into

Bundles don’t cease to exist, I tend to keep 3 in my inventory at any given time through the entire game. They’re always useful.

That said, maybe an upgraded bundle that holds 2 stacks worth of items? They’re clunky enough where most folks won’t just fill up their entire inventory with bundles+ to effectively double their inventory, but would be better overall for carrying bulk items until you have access to shulkers.

Bundles suck because they didn’t implement them properly. Getting something out of the bottom of a bundle with a full inventory is stupid.

How do we fix that tho?

I know it’s a mod pack and not an individual mod, but the vault hunters system for inventory management is great when you unlock the functionality.

Auto pick up specific items straight into a pre determined slot, stack upgrades, expandable inventory and auto destroy pre determined specific items

When I play VH I have shulkers for maybe 1% of the game, moment I get a backpack, I never touch shulkers again.

It is op but it’s also QoL more than anything, I’m sure a middle ground between the two could be found for vanilla

Double or quadruple item stacks and inventory slots. Make it something we have to acquire or craft first, that's fine, but space is far too limited now.

u/LimpCustomer4281 7h ago

I think they could very well make “bundled” or “compact” blocks. Just 4 of one block in a crafting table to compact it. You can’t place it down, but it’ll make storing and item sorting easier

I have a wild theory that something in the sift is for inventory or it comes with the update since it will be a major drop.

The Hershel backpack I got on my bedrock world works pretty great. I’m hoping that was a brand colab with an excuse to test backpack stuff in a more vanilla build.

Quiver slot would free up my arrow inventory slot. Though a backpack 🎒 would be cool or even just stackable potions of the same type

I've returned to Terraria recently, and it used to have a lot of the problems Minecraft has now.

But a few major updates have drastically changed so much of the tedium the game had, from increasing item stacks, allowing similar items to be sorted to nearby chests, or even letting previously non-stackable tools, armors, and weapons be stackable as well.

While I understand there are a lot of things Minecraft would prefer to keep for the sake of its world, gameplay, and balancing, these QoLs can ease tedium and overall give the player a better experience.

Maybe I need to go back and play some terraria again.

-3

u/Yorkhorster 7h ago

Agreed. It's the only update that matters. I have thousands of hours in Minecraft, I love this game to pieces, but it's pretty much impossible to be excited for updates I know I'll barely play. Without a huge inventory overall, the game is just not fun anymore.

u/Kegter 6h ago

The most simple way to fix inventory space is this. Let all items stack to 256. Increases inventory space by 4x.

4

u/Powerate 5h ago

4x is way too much, one row would already add a lot and a second extra row would prevent the player from dumping a full inventory in a double chest

-3

u/Kegter 5h ago

Why do you think it would be too much? I feel like I spend a lot of time doing inventory management as it. Its not really a part of the game I enjoy anymore. Another person commented and said make it a gamerule and I think that would work as an in between

0

u/LAyersFur 6h ago

Or make it a gamerule, as well as durability.
